I felt super safe in fact my Airbnb host always left his front door open and unlocked and I felt absolutely safe at all times. I went to loads of museums and enjoyed the art and culture a lot. If you like paintings and art it's the best place. I recommend the Natural History museum in town it's amazing you can spend ages there. I also recommend taking the water taxi and going to the fjords. Also Vigeland park is a must see. It rains a lot in the summer so waterproof clothes would be good. Food is fine, expensive and nothing too special but it's good food. I would say look for traditional stuff. Fish and the brown cheese.

I can recommend a visit to Norway anytime! Yes, a bit pricy, but the food was so good, the people were suuper kind and nice! The nature, the people, the food, the language, it is just lovely! Just check if your place is easy to travel to, since some areas can be hard to visit just by walking or bike.
Posted: July 8, 2025Experienced: May, 2022I felt very safe. The city was amazing. It's simultaneously very peaceful and vivid. I enjoyed walking around very much, there are so many attractions- museums, parks, botanical gardens. The fjord looks fantastic.

I West by myself to Longyearbyen, Svalbard, the first week in october 2024. It was a dream come true! It wasn't much turists and the prices were really low. In The other side a lot of attraction was not to be able to book but It was very Nice anyway.
Posted: June 10, 2025Experienced: September, 2024Since we stayed with my father who lived there i can't say much about the housing/hotels. The beaches are very beautiful and there is one for every need(one with a water playground for kids, one with some volleyball nets etc.). There is also a Discgolf place with several holes that is very entertaining. If you got kids and like hinking I do recommend going to the town hall and get a map for a treasure hunt! You basically go hiking all around the city searching for letters to complete it and receive a small price in the end. Not in mandal directly but there is a cool place called Vildgarden were you can meet, pet and feet some moose (extremely cool)
Posted: May 7, 2025Experienced: May, 2023I actually got stuck there for two days as I was trying to fly home. But I didn’t mind because I got to explore Oslo. I ended up sleeping at the airport and exploring the city during the day. The bus system was easy, the town was clean, and it was easy to communicate in English. I didn’t go out at night, so I’m not sure how safe the nightlife is.

Norway is the best place for woman!! Very safe, almost no crimes, and if something happens - you will get help immediately I live here almost all my life, and nothing dangerous has happened to me, and I was never robbed. I often walk outside at night alone, and I feel safe :)
Posted: July 13, 2025Safe city to walk around, and you will find helpful people. The northen part of Norway people are more helpful and meeting. When it comes to Tromsø it has a bit of tourists during the winter - wich some people may not be a big fan of (government is not doing enough). But you are safe as a single woman here.
