Safety index

Safety at night:Safe

Lagos is generally safe for solo female travelers even during nighttime. Its nightlife scene is lively and is often monitored by security personnel, making it secure for those who want to experience it. However, as in any places, it's important to maintain usual safety precautions. Avoid dark and less crowded areas, don't display expensive items, and always stay alert of your surroundings.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Lagos is generally safe and reliable. Buses and trains are the primary means of transportation and they hardly have any reported issues concerning safety, especially in daylight hours. Rules and regulations are strictly adhered to and locals are often courteous and helpful. Nonetheless, as with any travel, it's advisable to remain cautious and keep personal belongings secure to avoid any petty theft possibilities.

Street harassment:Low

Lagos generally maintains a safe and respectful atmosphere towards solo female travelers. It's a welcoming city with locals who treat visitors with kindness. Street harassment is rare, although it's still advised to be cautious especially during the night or in less crowded areas. Like always, street harassment can occur anywhere, but in Lagos, it's not a common occurrence.

Petty crimes:Low

Lagos is generally safe with lower instances of petty crimes such as pickpocketing compared to many other tourist destinations. However, as is the case in any location, it's important to remain mindful of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas and tourist hotspots.

Tap water:Safe

The tap water in Lagos is generally considered safe to drink. The country has high water treatment standards, so the purity and quality of the water is good. However, due to the different mineral content compared to what your body might be used to, some visitors may experience a slight upset stomach initially. You can opt to boil tap water or drink bottled water if you have a sensitive stomach.

Lagos was an amazing experience, the beautiful landscape paired with the kindness of the locals made me feel so safe. It was very easy to meet people and make friends. I stayed at Orange3 hostel and it was walking distance to everything. Highly recommend adding this to your list of places to visit!

If you visit Lagos during summer, you will really understand why the English are there in numbers. The sun will burn you, but the sea will soothe you. Lagos is a small town south of Portugal. I felt it was very safe with very cute streets and artwork. The beaches are walking distance. It was great to rewind here.

Solo travel experience

Lagos is a great city to stay in! Public transportation is very easy to understand (I used both the bus and the train), and the city itself is very pedestrian-friendly once you're there! As a solo woman I felt safe walking at any time of the day, both visitors and residents were very welcoming, and the city is beautiful! Take advantage of the activities offered there too!

I loved Lagos. The city gives off the vibe of a typical surfer's town, not too big and not too small, and the atmosphere is really nice. A walk along the beaches there is absolutely beautiful.
