Sintra is an absolutely magical place surrounded by mountains and full of beautiful historical and architectural treasures. It is very safe and compact and it is well-connected to Lisbon and other parts of Portugal by railway.
Posted: July 17, 2024Experienced: March, 2023I loved Sintra. I spent there 2 nights. I started from Quinta, then went to Pena, and then to Moorish. I spent the most time in Quinta - it was beautiful and it wasn't crowded when I was there.
Posted: August 7, 2023I went in August last year and thought that Pena is absolutely beautiful. I took the first train from Lisbon, got a ride from one of the cart drivers who wait outside the station, and reached the top before the tourists. I was tenth in line and it was great. I spent at least an hour walking around the palace, and then another hour in the palace grounds, exploring the gardens. Then I went down to stop at one of the other palaces.
Posted: July 25, 2023I really fell in love with Sintra. First, I visited Quinta da Regaleira, as it was the most important for me, from there I went to the Pena National Palace (I had an entrance for three), the Valley of the Lakes and ended my day at the Moors Castle. It was a tiring day, but I wouldn't change a thing.

I really enjoyed the weekend trip. My mum and I visited 3 palaces but we want to come to visit the others. If I'm not wrong, there's 7 palaces to visit in Sintra
Posted: April 16, 2023Experienced: January, 2023I returned there two days in a row. I loved the local monuments, but for me it was the Convento dos Capuchos just outside Sintra that stole my heart with its mysterious atmosphere. I was there completely alone on a gloomy, foggy day, in an area full of trees and stones - this place was spiritual for me. I am very glad that another traveler from the hostel told me about this place.
Posted: April 2, 2023I spent the weekend there in a really cool hostel. The Quinta da Regaleira gardens were magical, and both castles were definitely worth visiting. The whole town was so charming. Great coffee, queijada (small cheesecake) and cherry liqueur.

I don't remember ever seeing any problems in Sintra (city center), but as a woman, I'm obviously never 100% worry-free. With the increase in tourism, which is a problem for the locals, it's obviously very difficult to know who is walking around here, but so far it's been safe.
