I felt safe walking in the evening, in well lit areas. Walk with purpose and keep your valuables close to your body, preferably under your clothes in a fanny pack. If possible, walk with other people you know. Ignore and avoid eye contact with the street vendors, unless you want to buy from them. They are safe to buy from or go to restaurants by yourself, but do not be a pushover.
Posted: January 19, 2025I have already been in Lisbon before, but this time I went alone, it was nice especially walk near the river and cafes. I tried pastel de nata at the Time Out Market for 1,40 (i highly recommend) and i tried the cherry alcohol ( A Ginjinha) the only negative thing was the fact that many people on the streets try to sell you drugs and i dont recommend waking alone in the night

Every time I go to Lisbon I feel great, I never had problems and never felt unsafe. This time I stayed at Hygge House and their breakfast is really amazing :) (it's in their cafe so you can also try only the food, which is worth it :) ) Some times before I stayed in hostels and also had a great time. Lisbon is perfect for solo travel :)
Posted: January 7, 2025Experienced: July, 2024I feel that Lisboa people are really upset against turists, you can read « f*** airbnb » on many walls which is understandable, but the people Who sold the train tickets for example were very unfriendly because we spoke spanish and not portuguese. Anyway there are a Lot to see, fado shows, monasteries, palaces, beaches, and all very afordable! I recommend this capital

As a solo female traveler, I felt so safe here. Walking home alone at night from the pubs, strolling through the markets, meeting locals, I felt safe the whole time. I was only supposed to spend 1 week in Lisbon but I ended up spending 3 because the people are so lovely. Everything is inexpensive and I felt very welcomed by locals.

Lisbon is definitely my favorite city in Europe so far! People were always extremely friendly and nice, always eager to help. I have to mention pastel de Nara which are my favorite pastry ever. I’m counting days to come back there.

As a vegan, budget food options sometimes were only limited to hummus & salad which I don‘t mind, still … :) I felt very safe exploring the city & it‘s beautiful. There are so many hidden gems, beaches, thrift stores, etc :) loved it :)
Posted: November 27, 2024Experienced: July, 2024I volunteered in a hostel in Lisbon in early September. The weather was lovely and warm, so I regularly went to nearby beaches. I met friendly people at my hostel and in clubs or cafés, who I later hung out with. Also, the walking tour I took was a great way to meet new people, see historic sites, and learn the local hotspots.

Lovely city. Safe. Easy to walk around and see most places on foot or taking a train to slightly further attractions. Busy city. Good bus links. Lots of churches and old buildings and quaint little cobbled streets. Steep so need to be relatively fit to walk around.

Lisbon feels like a pretty safe city for a capital. There are both in day and night people that will try to sell you drugs, but I think it’s just part of Lisbon and I just ignore them. Apart from that nobody has ever approached me for any other reason.
Posted: January 17, 2025Lisbon is big. Usually is pretty safe during the day. The night is depends on the areas but I recomend to not walk alone at night if you are not a local and dont know the area. Just call a uber or taxi or go with more people. Also be aware during night outs in the street to keep your phone in your purse, but usually nothing ever happens, but its just better to be safe :))

Hey, I'm Svenja and I love traveling, Meeting new people and New places. I grew up in Germany, then I did work and travel in Australia and New Zealand. Afterwards, I moved to Marburg, Germany. Within this time, I walked 'the camino' from Lisbon to Santiago. Then, I moved abroad to the Netherlans to do my Bachelor's and Master's degree in clinical psychology. Last year I moved back to Germany and began to work with children. I still love to travel the World and Meet New people. Looking forward to it! 😊
