Corfu is generally considered a secure destination, even for solo female travelers. The locals are friendly and helpful, and crime rate is relatively low. However, it's always important to stay vigilant, especially during the night. Avoid deserted streets and always know your way back to your accommodation. Just like any location, there are potential risks just as there are still safety measures to follow.

The drivers are typically helpful, and it is uncommon to encounter issues. However, buses can get quite crowded in the peak season leading to discomfort, but cases of theft or harassment are quite rare.

Street harassment is not commonly reported or observed, and most locals go out of their way to make tourists feel welcome. As always, it's important to be aware of your surroundings, especially during the night, but generally, the instance of street harassment is low.

Corfu generally maintains a lower level of petty crimes when compared to larger world cities. As a popular tourist destination, most areas are safe and welcoming. However, like any destination, it's important for travelers to stay alert and keep personal belongings secure. Pick-pocketing and purse snatching incidents occur infrequently, primarily in larger crowds or on public transport.

Tap water:Safe

The tap water in Corfu, is generally safe to drink. It meets the standards set by the European Union and is subjected to regular and stringent quality tests. However, due to the water's high mineral content, it may not be palatable for everyone and could potentially lead to minor stomach issues. Most locals and visitors choose to drink bottled water for this reason.

Solo travel experience

I went alone to Corfu in early July and absolutely loved the place. Everyone is very friendly, and the Old Town is charming. Some of my activities included a one-day boat trip to Paxos and Antipaxos (this was the best thing I did), a one-day trip to Sarande in Albania, and a food tour around Corfu Town. The entire time I was there, I felt very safe and comfortable.

Solo travel experience

A very green island with lots of beautiful views. There are many small, secluded beaches with crystal clear water. You can also find sandy beaches here. On the island, there is a charming town of Corfu with numerous monuments and atmospheric Italian-style alleys. The island will certainly enchant everyone. However, it's quite a popular place, so it can get crowded during the season.

Solo travel experience

I spent a few days in Corfu. I visited Palaiokastro and a town near the old fortress. The beach at Palaiokastro was beautiful, with crystal clear water, amazing views, and charming fish, but it got crowded later in the day. They also have an amazing waterfront restaurant with really good food there. Along the way, there were smaller inlets that might have been better, but I didn't get a chance to try them out. I definitely recommend going there at sunset, it was beautiful, and I really enjoyed the chance to admire this place. I stayed in a local hostel that was very nice, clean, and located close to a bus station and town.
