Heraklion is a super cute and safe place to be! Walked everywhere but there are also some free busses you can take to go around. Otherwise, public transport is very convenient and safe. Lots to see, extra nice restaurants and everyone is extremely friendly.

It's really safe Especially compared to other places. I have had some experiences of sexual harassment but that was only in remote places. Unfortunately or fortunately men from Muslim countries are more prone to harassment. So try to avoid them just for safety! We do not support racism of course but we are aware of the situation.
Posted: July 27, 2025It's overall safe during the daylight but after 9pm I would advice to not wander alone and in darker spots in the city, definitely be aware of your surroundings because there's risk of bumping into drunken people or junkies but also very common is drivers being irresponsible.
Posted: April 14, 2025Heraklion is a safe place because people rarely hear of a tragedy here, even the locals(I am not originally from here) assure you that this is a safe place. Nevertheless you shouldn't let your guards down because you never know what might happen
Posted: January 9, 2025Heraklion is a small city in Crete, Greece near the sea. It's considered very safe, I don't feel any threat at all walking alone at night wherever I am in the city. I would suggest heraklion as a destination for all ladies travelling.
Posted: December 16, 2024Heraklion is a really safe place to stay at. Im a news anchor at a local radio station and I'd say only a handful of crimes are being reported, especially against women. Public transportation is super safe. Walking alone at night is fine as well even though i dont recommend it in general (nowhere in the world, not just in heraklion) Haven't had any troubles tbh but im always aware of my surroundings cause you better be safe than sorry. Stay safe girls 💪
