I have been to Colorado twice now with my family. The first time we drove there from NC (3 days to get there on car). We explored Colorado Springs and the hikes around the area like Garden of the Gods. The next time we went we took a plane and explored more of Denver, hiking the Rocky Mountains National Park. I felt incredibly safe as there were so many other travelers with us when we went out exploring. We had our own car (and rented a car for the 2nd trip) to get around which made everything much easier and saved time. We stayed in Loveland on our second trip at a little house and saved money by going to the nearby grocery store for food. Money was spent on the flight, the place we stayed at, the food, and the passes we had to get to enter the national park. Other hiking areas were free and very beautiful. My mom and I did a lot of hiking on our own and felt safe since there were other hikers on the trails we were on. We came across many other hikers who were traveling alone, so I felt safe the whole time.

Our recent experience in Colorado was truly incredible. I embarked on a memorable adventure with my 11-month-old daughter, starting by renting a jeep from Denver Airport to drive to Vail, Colorado. As we arrived in Vail, it felt like stepping into a mini Swiss village, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. From there, our journey took us to Glenwood Springs, where we indulged in the soothing hot springs. It was an unforgettable experience, immersing ourselves in the warm waters while enjoying the stunning views. Next on our itinerary was Aspen, another captivating destination. We explored the charming town and ventured into the mountains, seeking the thrill of high altitudes. Reaching an impressive 12,000 feet, we visited Independence Pass and witnessed the majestic beauty of the surrounding landscapes. Continuing our drive, we arrived at Colorado Springs, where we had the opportunity to take a cog train up the mountain, scaling over 14,000 feet. The view from the top was simply awe-inspiring, providing us with a panoramic vista of the surrounding area. Our exploration of Colorado Springs led us to the remarkable Garden of the Gods. The natural rock formations were a sight to behold as we meandered through the park, marveling at the unique beauty of this geological wonder. Finally, we drove to downtown Denver, where we immersed ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the city. We strolled across the Millennium Bridge and discovered other notable landmarks, including Union Station. Each stop added a unique dimension to our journey, leaving us amazed and inspired. Ultimately, our adventure came to an end, but the memories we made will stay with us forever. Colorado proved to be a destination of unparalleled beauty, offering us a diverse range of experiences from picturesque mountain towns to captivating natural wonders and urban exploration.

I’ve grown up here and overall it is very safe. We do have a fairly high population of homeless people- usually vets with mental illness. However, in my experience they are overwhelmingly safe and will not bother you. Petty theft is actually quite rare in my opinion. Very little to no gang violence or anything like that. Only thing to note is quite a few people here own guns, which I don’t love. Unfortunately, it is America so we’ve had our fair share of active shootings. Nothing above the average or anything like that, and nothing I’ve personally experienced directly, but it is something I think about.

Generally the people here are very friendly, obviously you should still remain vigilant in secluded areas at night and bad areas of town. The people I’ve seen on hiking trails seem very friendly and open to talk.
