Wigan is a safe place, because it is often busy even at night so there are people around the town centre. There most umsafe areas are actually neibouring towns, namely skelmersdale which has a history of violent crime and gang activity. However that is also specific to one or two areas and gemreally doesn't affect the locals who are not themselces involved
