Is Portsmouth safe for solo female travelers?

Portsmouth is usually quite safe for solo female travelers. The city is known for its friendly locals and most areas are well-policed. However, like any other city, it's always important to stay vigilant, especially at night and in less crowded areas. Use common sense safety precautions such as avoiding lonely streets, not displaying expensive items in public, and informing someone trustful about your daily plan.

It depends on the area you are staying in, Southsea + Old Portsmouth + Gunwharf are the safest areas. I would completely avoid North End, if you’re alone and certain areas of Fratton. Guildhall area is student dominated, so also pretty safe.

Overall I feel safe 95% of the time! Just like everywhere, during the day, overall it is very safe, and at night is is still safe but good to have your whits about you as a woman. Using normal precautions will be just fine x

It is a lovely city, I love walking around during the day but at night it is not the best if you are alone or if you live on secondary roads. We have experienced a lot of criminal episodes especially on Fawcett road lately, but it is common even in main roads like Albert road
