How safe is Halifax?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Halifax in the United Kingdom is generally a comfortable and secure place, especially when compared to other larger cities. However, like anywhere else, things can change once the sun goes down. While most central and tourist areas are well lit and populated, there may be fewer people on the streets late at night which might make you feel less safe. As a rule of thumb, always stay in well-lit areas, avoid walking alone at night if possible, and use local taxis or reputable ride-hailing services when traveling back to your accommodation late at night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Halifax is generally reliable and safe. Buses, trains, and taxis are the primary forms of transportation. Buses are considered safe, widely available, and are frequently the best method of getting around. Trains are also safe, though they may be a bit more expensive. Taxis are metered and well-regulated, although it's always a good idea to be aware of your surroundings. However, as in any location, one should remain vigilant, especially while travelling alone during late hours.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

As a solo female traveler in Halifax, you'll typically find the locals are respectful. Cases of street harassment are infrequent, and the community generally has a welcoming attitude towards travelers. However, like anywhere, it's always important to remain vigilant, especially at night and in less crowded areas. Always let someone know about your plans and stay connected.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Halifax is generally a safe town to visit, with minimal incidents of petty crimes such as pickpocketing and theft. Of course, as with any travel destination, it is always advisable to be cautious and aware of your surroundings. For example, you should keep your belongings secured and avoid deserted areas at night. However, overall, the occurrence of petty crimes is relatively low compared to other places in the UK.

Skircoat area/Saville Park feels very safe. I avoid inner town centre late at night but fine during the day. Lived here for 4 years with no problems, house is often left empty months at a time when travelling and never had any issue with breakins.
