Is Rize Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Rize is generally safe for solo female travelers. Like most places, it emphasizes the importance of personal safety precautions. The locals are friendly and respectful, and crime rates are quite low. However, it's essential to maintain regular travel safety habits, such as not walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas and always letting someone know your daily itinerary. Make sure to respect local customs and dress modestly. Always stay vigilant, but you should expect a largely safe and welcoming experience in Rize.

How safe is Rize?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Rize is generally safe to walk around at night as the local people are hospitable and crime rates are relatively low. However, as with any location it is a good idea to stay alert, stick to well-lit and populated areas, and use your common sense to ensure your personal safety. The city shuts down fairly early, there's not much nightlife, so keep that in mind when planning your schedule.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Rize is generally secure and reliable. Buses and minibuses operate regularly, connecting central regions and remote areas efficiently. Drivers and staff are often courteous and willing to assist. Occasional overcrowding during peak hours is common, which could slightly affect your comfort but safety is rarely compromised. Late-night services are less frequent so planning your trip timings is advised.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

While Turkey itself is still developing when it comes to attitudes towards women, Rize tends to be safer with quite lower cases of street harassment reported. Like in any place, it is always advisable to maintain usual practices of safety such as avoiding secluded areas at night. In general, Turkish people respect personal space and conversations with strangers do not often escalate to harassment. Caution is still advised but overall, it's a friendly experience.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Rize is generally safe when it comes to petty crimes. Opportunistic thefts can happen occasionally, as with any travel destinations. However, most locals are known for their hospitality and helpfulness towards tourists. The chances of encountering pickpockets or small scams are lower compared to busy cities, but general precautions should still be taken, such as not flashing expensive personal items and using secure bags.

Rize is a small and quiet city. I think it is safer compared to big cities. The rarity of incidents like theft and robbery makes it feel safer to explore. However, it is still important to be cautious when it gets dark.

It’s a small city on the east side of Türkiye, in the black sea region. Approximately one hour to Georgia. It is really safe for women. If you need any help you can go to a nearby cafe, shop, markets. Even though they don’t know English they will try to help you with anything. Of course there are bad people everywhere but it’s unlikely to get kidnapped or harassed here in Rize. We have a lot of mountains waterfalls ect. We have all green things and the sea. You can swim in the summer season.
