Is Bursa Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Bursa is generally safely traveled by solo female travelers. The locals are friendly and helpful, and there's a strong security presence in popular tourist areas. It's always important, however, as anywhere else, to be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. It's recommended to avoid less crowded and poorly lit areas and always respect the local culture and customs, particularly in terms of dressing conservatively.

How safe is Bursa?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Bursa is a generally safe city to visit, including at night. However, as with traveling in any city, you should always exercise certain precautions. Avoid unpopulated or poorly lit areas, especially late at night. It's advisable to stay in crowded areas and tourist-frequented neighborhoods, as they tend to be more secure. Keep your belongings close and maintain awareness of your surroundings. Public transportation is reliable, but it's best to arrange for a taxi if you have to travel late at night. Local people are helpful and kind, but be cautious while interacting with strangers.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Bursa is generally safe for solo female travelers. City buses, trams, and metro are often crowded but reliable, and are routinely used by locals and tourists alike. However, it's always important to be conscious of your belongings, especially in crowded situations. Cab services are also readily available and tend to be secure. But make sure to either have the hotel call a reputable taxi service or use a legitimate stand, rather than hailing one in the street. Although incidents are not common, maintaining vigilance is recommended.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

In Bursa, street harassment is relatively low when compared to other major cities around the globe. As a fairly conservative society, public harassments are typically not tolerated, but incidents can occur sporadically. Remember to dress modestly to fit in with local custom. Avoid secluded areas, particularly at night, to improve your overall safety. Furthermore, building some basic local language skills can also be helpful in managing such situations more effectively.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Bursa, like many tourist areas, is not without petty crimes such as pickpocketing and purse snatching, particularly in crowded areas and public transport. However, these incidents are relatively low compared to other major cities. It's always wise to remain vigilant, secure your belongings, and avoid displaying expensive items or carrying large sums of money to minimize the risk.

Last year, I visited Bursa, Tophane Meydanı. It’s a historical place in the center of Bursa. It was an incredible experience. The food, the view, and the people were amazing. I really enjoyed everything.

Solo travel

Bursa is beautiful but it is really boring there is not much to do.There are very few museums and shrines in general, and the sea, but that's too far away. It's okay for a day trip, but I It should stay like that for 2-3 days Not Prices are a little more expensive than Eskişehir Have a nice trip in advance

Family travel

I felt quite safe in Bursa especially in Altınşehşr and Mudanya. When we first went there we hamgout in Old Bursa (Osmangazi). I didnt go to the mosques bc in alreday saw them before. We ate İskender at Tarihi Ahşap Dükkan ambiance was really good real İskender is good too but they served eggplants and tomato for "vegetarian iskender" Next we went to the Mudanya for swimming. There are toooo many mosses and mussel shells at the coast of the beach i recommend you to wear sea shoes. After the beach we visited the Old Mudanya Streets. The houses were pretty.

Local

I feel safe in Bursa. Maybe it is because my hometown but there are options for transportation. Hiking to Uludağ, Golyazi, Cumalikizik, some Ottoman Empire marks, nature, waterfalls. A lot of places to see, traditional meals like Iskender Kebab, Tahanli etc. You need to consider to give a chance.

Bursa has different parts which have different safety levels. But mostly the center is a place that you need to be aware of your belongings also, I don't recommend to walk alone at night. You won't get kidnapped but you may have an unsettling experience

Bursa is generally a safe and welcoming city for travelers. Like in any urban area, it’s good to stay aware of your surroundings, especially at night or in very crowded areas. Most neighborhoods are calm, and locals are friendly and helpful. As a woman traveler, I’ve felt comfortable exploring the city, using public transportation, and enjoying its beautiful nature, historical sites, and delicious food.
