The people are very nice and friendly. I would say, it is very safe. I have lived in Winterthur my whole life and nothing bad happend to me during this time. I always drove with my bicycle to the city and back when I was going out, and it was no problem at all.
Posted: May 9, 2025Most of the time I feel safe. One of the only things which I don’t feel fully comfortable with is having to go home late passing through the train station and using public transport. I‘ve been catcalled and have gotten into weird conversations in those contexts which is why I‘m always being a bit careful. I‘ve never experienced any harassment in Winterthur because of being openly queer. I‘ve heard of a few break-ins over the last years but not that I would be too worried about it.

Sarah
Hi, I am Sarah and lived my whole life in Winterthur, Switzerland. I have always been pretty active as a kid, I still do gymnastics at a local gymnastics club. In addition to gymnastics, I love cycling and hiking. When I rode my bike from Winterthur to Amsterdam for the first time four years ago, I discovered my passion for bikepacking. I was inspired by my older brother, who has also been on many bike trips. After my trip to Amsterdam, I knew that I wanted to go on a bike trip for a longer period of time. In the last few years, I have done many smaller bikepacking trips (to Zermatt, Ljubljana or through the French and Spanish Pyrenees). This year I'm finally fulfilling my dream and will ride my bike from Switzerland to Norway (Tromsø) all by myself and alone.
