Montserrat is an amazing experience and I totally recommend doing it! Bear in mind that the hiking part was not always easy and requires very good fitness required. I’d rate it as moderate difficulty. The view from the top was totally worth it though. There are two toilets at the start of the hike (down on the ground) which I really recommend using before hiking since there are no toilets up there. Also bring lots of food and water, especially in summer since there are no cafe or restaurants up there. Also no chairs to sit obviously. After reaching half of the hike, you’ll find a church. Entering the church is for free but there is much to see. If you’re short on time, you can skip it. There are hostels and hotels nearby if you’d like to spend the night there as well but book well inn advance. If you don’t like to hike, there’s a funicular which takes you all the way up (but you’ll miss all the fun hiking). There is also public transport that takes you to Montserrat station and from there you can hike up a bit and then take the funicular or continue hiking to the top. I went with a tour guide in a mini van and to me this was so much better. Also, he is a local so we hiked through paths which only locals know about, not the popular one written on blogs or shown on Instagram. And the tour wasn’t expensive at all, so if you’re not on a budget, I’d recommend booking it! Overal: Montserrat is a MUST!!
