Safety index

Safety at night:Safe

Granada, is generally considered safe, even at night. While certain areas can be more lively in terms of night activities, crime rates are quite low compared to other cities. However, as with any location, it is always essential for solo female travelers to take basic precautions such as avoiding poorly-lit or deserted areas late at night, not carrying significant amounts of money or valuables, and ensuring they have a reliable way to get back to their accommodation.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Granada is relatively safe, very efficient and comfortable. The buses reach far and wide across the city and nearby towns. It includes the regular buses, the smaller Alhambra bus, and the Night buses which cover the majority of the Granada city. However, like in any part of the world, remain vigilant of pick-pocketing and keep your belongings safe.

Street harassment:Low

Based on personal experiences and hearing from others, Granada is generally safe and street harassment is relatively low. The locals are quite respectful and crime rates are not high. However, as always, it is advised to stay cautious, especially during the night or in less crowded areas. It's always wise to trust your instincts, whether you're in a busy tourist area or exploring off the beaten path.

Petty crimes:Low

Granada is relatively safe when it comes to petty crimes for solo female travelers. Pickpocketing or bag snatching incidents are not as frequent compared to some other major cities. However, in touristic areas and crowded places, vigilance should be maintained. It is advised to keep your belongings secure and be cautious especially in crowded public transports and tourist hotspots. As a solo female traveler, you should also be aware of your surroundings and act confidently to discourage any potential petty crimes.

Tap water:Very safe

In Granada, you can confidently drink the tap water. It's not only safe but also meets the high-quality standards, so you should have no issues with consumption or using it for cooking. It's just as good as bottled water and easily accessible, saving you from buying single-use plastic bottles. However, the taste might be a bit different from what you're used to back home due to the mineral content, but it's not a health concern at all.

Solo travel experience

Grenada is absolutely charming, I went there on my first solo trip and loved every minute. It is located right next to the Sierra Nevada mountains, and I spent one day on an amazing hike during sunset. It is also much more traditionally Spanish than some of the larger cities.
