How safe is Alicante?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Alicante is generally a safe city, particularly in well-visited areas. However, as with any city, it is advised to remain cautious and aware of your surroundings during the night hours. Normal safety precautions like avoiding empty streets or poorly lit areas, not flashing valuables, and maintaining an assertive posture should be observed. The city has a well-maintained infrastructure and a good police presence, especially in tourist areas, which adds to its safety profile. Although many people, including women, do walk around alone at night, it's always recommended to be vigilant about your personal safety.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Alicante, is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. The city has a good network of buses, trams, and taxis which are reliable and regularly maintained. Pickpocketing and minor offenses could be a concern in crowded places, but serious incidents are rare. It is advised to be attentive to your belongings and aware of your surroundings at all times. Therefore, use of public transport can be a cost effective and secure way to traverse the city.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Alicante, is generally a safe city for solo female travelers. It is known for its friendly locals and tourists often report feeling comfortable and at ease during their stay. There may be occasional catcalls or comments, as is common in many places around the world, but they are infrequent and rarely escalate beyond words. That being said, basic precautions, such as avoiding isolated areas late at night and being aware of your surroundings, are advisable for overall safety.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Alicante is a relatively safe city, but like most popular tourist destinations, it is not entirely immune to petty crimes. The most common incidents are theft and pickpocketing, especially in crowded places such as markets, beaches and public transportation. However, the rate of these incidents is still quite low compared to major cities worldwide. As a solo female traveler, usual precautions like keeping an eye on your belongings and not flashing valuable items can further reduce the risk. Practice common safety measures and your trip should be fine.

Awesome city with great city-beach and wonderful culture and winter climate! Endless restaurants and yummy fresh fruits and veggies. Spain’s largest indoor market as well as neighborhood mercadillos. Highly recommended for city-with-beach travel 🌟

Amazing, friendly environment. Locals help you with learning the language. People may be flirtatious but will respect you and you will feel safe. Nice food, may take longer to prepare. Welcoming locals

Family travel

I had a great time in Alicante ! I will recommend to visit the Santa Barbara castle, the central market, l'esplanada d'Espanya and of course eat a paella ! Alicante is a lovely city that can be explored in 2-3 days. So if you got more time than that, i'll recommend to go to Altea which is, in my opinion a must see!

My trip was way too short I recommend staying for at least a couple days! The Santa Barbara Castle is a must but I also highly recommend getting lost in the old town streets just underneath it. No shortage of options for food and drink and it has a beautiful beach for warmer days too!

There is the occasional catcall but nothing to be worried about. The centre is so safe. It’s always busy so if anything happens there’s always someone to ask for help. I felt very safe at night time walking home too. There are some not so safe areas but there isn’t really any need to go there if you stay in the centre it’s all just houses.

Spain is in general a safe country. You always need to be cautious as you never know, but I have walked home after a party night and never happened anything to me. Anyways, you can always take a taxi, they are safe. Same as the rest of the public transport. You can get robbed, that is more frequent. Especially at the beach it is important not to leave your personal belongings alone.
