Is Slovenia Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Slovenia is widely regarded as one of the safest countries in the world. Crimes rates are very low, and violent crimes are extremely rare. Solo female travelers often report feeling at ease, even when traveling alone at night or in remote areas. The people are friendly and helpful, and nearly everyone speaks English. As with any travel setting, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, but in Slovenia, safety concerns are minimal.

How safe is Slovenia?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Slovenia is generally safe to walk around at night, even for solo female travelers. It has an excellent safety record and crime rates are quite low. However, like anywhere, it's always important to be aware of your surroundings, especially in larger cities like Ljubljana. It's also sensible to stick to well-lit areas, avoid walking alone in isolated places, and not respond to unnecessary attention. Use of common sense and basic precautions can largely ensure a safe and enjoyable travel experience.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Slovenia, especially buses and trains, is generally safe, efficient, and reliable. As a woman traveling alone, you should feel quite comfortable. However, as in any country, it is always advised to remain cautious, particularly during late hours and avoid isolated areas.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Slovenia is generally a very safe country for solo female travelers. The instances of street harassment are quite low, and most women can travel around without feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. People are respectful and crime rates are low. However, like anywhere, it is essential to stay aware of your surroundings and follow general safety precautions such as not walking alone late at night in unfamiliar areas.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Slovenia is generally a safe country, with a high level of security standard. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing or bag snatching do occur, more frequently in the busy tourist areas and on public transport. However, Slovenia has a relatively low rate of these incidents compared to some other European destinations. You should always take normal precautions to safeguard your belongings. Keep your personal items secure, especially in crowded areas and craftily take preventive measures, as you would in your own country.

Slovenia, Family travel

We felt really safe. We stayed each day in a different accommodation and without fail everyone was very nice and helpful. I recommend checking out the capital, it's really charming and easy to check out as it is pretty small compared to other European capitals. And of course there's Bled, which is breathtaking. I highly recommend 3-4 days in the area of the national park, there's just so many beautiful things to see and so many fun things to do. Piran is another beauty of Slovenia I wouldn't mind visiting again! As for transportation, each time I visited the country it was always by car. It is very easy to get around by cars. I'd however recommend planning beforehand and booking the accomodations in advance. It was hard to find something for the same night especially around the national park area.

Ljubljana, Group travel

I spend an amazing week in Ljubljana, Slovenia with my friends. We explored the city, went to some bars, climbed to the castle. The atmosphere in the city is really cozy, it feels like a smaller version of Vienna:) People are super friendly, almost everyone knows English. I felt rather safe but I think it was also because I was never alone. So that might depend on if you're a solo traveler. Overall I really enjoyed the trip and definitely recommend visiting Ljubljana!

Slovenia was such a friendly place where even in the remote location we stayed which was 1600 metre up the mountain I felt safe. Local attractions such as the Savica waterfall was majestic and a good little hike to see it. I tried paragliding,, visited Lake bohinj and Lake Bled (my favourite). Stunning views and lots of excellent restaurants to suit varied tastes. The whole trip including accommodation, flights, food, trips, excursions and hire car was £3400.

Bled, Solo travel

I travelled there alone and it was really amazing ! It is a very crowded place in the summer but my stay still was relaxing and peacefull. I stayed at Pr Močn wich is a really small hostel that I really recommend. It's cheap, really close to the lake and it feels like home. I met so many nice people there ! The main attraction is the lake where you can do kayak, stand up paddle, a boat tour... You can go on the little island in the middle of the lake, where you can find a little church to visit and a really nice place to get ice cream. There are also a lot of hiking trail around there. So if you love nature and calm it's an amazing place to go !

Slovenia, Solo travel

Slovenia is by far one of the safest countries, especially for solo female travelers. Reason; well, basically barely anyone around and people leave each other alone, but will help you when you ask. I visited Ljubljana and went to an abandoned hotel, which was super cool. Then I went to Kranj, stayed in a hostel with view on nature and visited Lake bled!! You can walk through cities, but if you wanna visit other towns you should use Flixbus, Train or Arriva Bus. Super underrated country, nature was 10/10 and it is cheap

Ljubljana, Couple travel

I traveled with my 2 other female friends and it was one of the safest places Ive ever been. The locals are so friendly and welcoming. You can walk in anytime of the day without any worries. Transportation is amazing. You can hire a bike all over the city and everywhere is a ride away. I highly recommend to experience the city without any worries

Slovenia, Solo travel

It’s a cozy and cheap but gorgeous version of Switzerland. Highly recommend spending a week of two to explore all regions by car or camper etc. People are mostly chill but not particularly cheerful or nice.

Bled, Solo travel

I visited Bled during corona time which meant the city was quite calm and tourist free, which might not be the case now. Nevertheless it’s a lovely small town to visit! I recommend to take the time to just stroll around the lake and admire the views to the mountains, lake. Take a hike up to Ojstrica mountain top to enjoy breathtaking views! If you have time, go and see Soteska Vintgar gorge. To gain back energy, pamper yourself with local sweet delicacy which is called kremsnita cake. All in all I felt very safe in Bled! Great for a solo day travel or spend some more days there.

Mozirje

Mozirje is a small town located in the upper Savinjska valley. It is more of a checkpoint and crossing area to get to other sights this location has to offer, like Logar valley and Golte hill. There is great transportation offerd, with a main bustop in the center of town, next to the information cneter. Neathless to say, Mozirje is a beautiful town, surounded by nature and mouitans. With many restaurants and caffes all within walking distance, aswell as hiking trails with wonderful views. We also have a flower park.

Ljubljana

In my opinion, Ljubljana is a relatively safe city. Violent crimes are rare, and petty crimes, like pickpocketing are still uncommon. Public transportation, such as buses and trains, are generally safe. Many areas in the city, especially around the center, are well-lit at night, and the general atmosphere is peaceful. I would recomend to avoid Metelkova street and train station at night. I would say that old city center and parts like Bežigrad, Šiška and Trnovo are quite safe also at night. I still recommend to be always carefull and avoid late night walking alone around.

About me

Hello, I’m Nina from Slovenia! A bit about me: I come from a big family with four siblings and a lot of cousins, which means I’ve always been surrounded by people. I’ve lived in several countries, including Sweden, the Netherlands, and France (I was au-pair), which has sparked my love for travel and exploring new places. I’m very flexible, organized, active, and hardworking. I’m also a big fan of nature, sports, and spending quality time with friends. Cooking and baking are some of my favorite things to do, and I enjoy learning about new cultures through food. So I would love for you to experience my country. There's so much to see here, from the beautiful landscapes to the rich culture, and I truly believe you would enjoy it. If you're ever interested in visiting, I would be more than happy to be your guide. I'd love to show you around, introduce you to local spots, and make sure you get the most out of your time here.

Helloo! I am Soujanya. I am a Masters student in Budapest who’s really trying hard to add more countries to my list of countries traveled in 2025 haha. I like meeting new people, knowing that we are all the same regardless of where we are from. I read a lot, love museums, and history. I could host people once/twice a month in Budapest, hoping you could host me in your countries as exchange! 🫶💖💖
