Is Kazan Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Kazan is generally safe for solo female travelers. Even though petty crimes including pickpocketing can occur occasionally particularly in crowded places, violent crimes against tourists are rare. Local people are friendly and a good number is fluent in English, so getting help or guidance when necessary is rather straightforward. However, like in any other city across the world, it is recommended to be always vigilant, especially during the night and in less crowded areas. Safe accommodations and public transportation are also readily available, adding to the overall safety of the city.

How safe is Kazan?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Kazan is generally considered safe during the day, with low occurrence of violent crimes. However, similar to other larger cities, it is advisable to be cautious at night, particularly in deserted areas. It is quite safe in areas where there are shops and people around, but it is recommended to avoid less crowded areas late at night. Public transportation is reliable and considered safe. However, like anywhere else, always remain vigilant of your surroundings.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Kazan is generally reliable and safe. Buses, trams, and the metro are used frequently by locals and visitors. However, during peak hours it can get crowded and occasional pickpocketing can occur, so it's advisable to keep an eye on your belongings. Most of the public transport signs are in Russian, so it could be challenging if you don't speak the language. But overall, it's a safe and efficient means of getting around.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Kazan, as one of Russia's largest cities, is generally a safe place to travel. While certain isolated incidents of street harassment could occur, as they can in any large city, it's not a widespread issue here. Many local inhabitants are welcoming to tourists, and the police are typically responsive. Be aware of your surroundings, and always follow general safety guidelines. Carry a working cellphone and know the local emergency numbers. Avoid wandering alone in isolated or poorly lit areas late at night, especially if you've been drinking any kind of alcohol. But overall, you should feel fairly comfortable walking around the city.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Kazan is generally a secure and safe destination, particularly during the day. The rate of petty crimes like pickpocketing or bag snatching is relatively low compared to other major cities. However, it is still advisable to keep a keen watch and be aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded areas or public transportation. As with any other city, tourists can be targets for opportunistic thieves. Always remember to secure your belongings and avoid showing off expensive items in public.

Is Kazan worth visiting?

Is Kazan safe for women?

I actually feel safe here. While commuting alone, I've never felt unsafe. I'm a university stydent so travelling is a major part of my daily routine. Sometimes there are drunk old menwho catcall you but it happens very rarely. So overall it's safe but it's always better to maintain your distance from these creeps
