Is Moscow safe for solo female travelers?

Moscow, as a global city, is relatively safe for travelers, but like any other major city, it requires caution. General safety concerns include pickpocketing and minor scams typically found in tourist areas. It is advised to avoid less crowded and poorly lit areas at night. Since it is a large metropolis, know your routes and keep the numbers of reliable taxi services. Most of the locals may not speak English which can be an issue in some circumstances, but metro maps and major signs are usually also in English. Being vigilant and respectful of local customs can make for a safe trip in Moscow.

How safe is Moscow for solo female travelers?

Solo travel

It was a really nice trip. You can travel on a budget. There’s lots to see and do. I’d definitely try local cuisine, there’s a wide choice of dineries. Taxi is affordable, safe. Avoid travelling in the rush hour, the streets can be blocked.

Mostly people don't care about you. They live in their mind. When I went anywhere on subway people are sleeping and also underground 🚇 so clear and so quiet. In the center we can walk without dangerous. I see people who put their phone and leave make order in cafe. Nobody touched this phone

It is very safe. I can come home at midnight and not worry about safety. The city is very safe, I am living alone I have never had any problems. I can easily walk at night, so you are welcome to come here

The main thing is not to walk around in unfamiliar places after dark — and honestly, even in familiar ones. Try not to go meet someone alone. Always follow basic safety rules: never leave your glass unattended in clubs or bars; let your close ones know your plans; don’t agree to leave a crowded place with someone; stay alert; don’t drink or eat anything you didn’t buy yourself or didn’t see being brought to you by the staff. And definitely stay away from drunk people. Personally, I’ve never been in any dangerous situations like that, but the stories people tell…

The safest city in the country, in my opinion, clean and comfortable. If it weren't for the political regime, I'd give it 5 stars. Convenient, well-designed transportation, interesting establishments and festivals. People are generally friendly to foreigners. For a girl, the safety rating is about a 4; the likelihood of someone bothering you is low. However, it's best not to walk alone at night or in side streets, especially further from the center, as is probably the case anywhere in the world, unfortunately

It is pretty safe, much safer than in some famous capitals. Of course do not exclude common sense - don’t walk alone at night, be careful with drinks and so on. People are kind and willing to help always.

About me

Hi! I'm Diana, I'm 23, and I was born and raised in Belarus. I moved to Russia to study foreign languages, currently halfway through my masters in pedagogy. I live in Khimki, a suburban city between Moscow and Sheremetyevo airport. I enjoy reading, translating, watching videos on politics and drawing in watercolor, but most importantly, i like food. I recently started gardening and would like to hear some tips, if you wish to share your experience! I love traveling when I can, preferring architecture over beaches. Can't wait to hit some local spots — I particularly love vintage markets.

About me

Hey there! I’m a filmmaker with big dreams of becoming a director — and a passionate travel blogger in the making. Recently I left my permanent home to live a nomadic life across countries, mountains, deserts, and oceans. I’m what you might call travel-homeless — constantly on the move, chasing colors, textures, and the wild beauty of nature. I love remote places, raw landscapes, and the kind of adventures that make you feel alive. Open to meaningful connections, collabs, and spontaneous trips — I speak fluent English and never shy away from deep talks or crazy hikes. Also: huge animal lover 🐾 and always ready for a good laugh under the stars. Let’s explore this planet together 💫
