I've been staying in Sosnowiec, Poland for 7 months now. And even if I like this country I had so many bad experiences here. People can be really racist and rude, it has nothing to do with your ethnicity it's like they are scared of foreigners or something. Most of the people here do not speak English. There are also really nice people in Sosnowiec and if you ask them something even if they don't know English they would try to help you, sometimes they try to help you by raising their voices while speaking Polish, as if you would understand.

It is similar to other cities in Poland. Some drunk or homeless people but mostly not dangerous. I would say that it is the same during the day and after dark, usual amount of caution needed. I haven't experienced any theft attempts or anything like that, some unwanted comments at most.

Sosnowiec is generally very safe, it also depends on the neighborhood, but as long as you avoid walking at night in Pogoń or Niwka, everything should be fine. I live in Zagórze and I think it's the safest there.
