How safe is Krakow?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Krakow is generally safe to walk at night, especially around the city center and popular tourist areas which are well-lit and patrolled. Like any major city, there can be isolated incidents, so being alert and conscious of your surroundings is advisable. Instances of pickpocketing can occur, but physical assaults are rare. Using common travel safety precautions should suffice.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Krakow is relatively safe for female solo travelers. Trams and buses run efficiently and are well maintained. They are quite frequently used by locals, tourists, students, and generally individuals of all age groups which often includes local travelers making regular routes less risky. Traveling during day time is notably safer. However, it's still recommended to stay cautious during late-night hours to avoid any potential issues. It's always a good idea to have the route well mapped out in advance and look confident while commuting.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Krakow is generally safe and welcoming to solo female travelers. It's significantly less common to experience explicit forms of street harassment such as aggressive cat-calling or stalking here compared to many other global cities. However, as with any destination, it is always important to maintain caution and awareness of your surroundings, particularly during the night or in less crowded areas. The locals are quite respectful and the police promptly respond to any reported incidences.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Krakow is relatively safe when it comes to petty crimes. Nevertheless, like any popular tourist area, potential thieves may operate. Always keep an eye on your belongings, particularly at crowded places or public transportation. However, the city possesses excellent security measures and law enforcement, generally making it safe for tourists.

I spent very little money. I flew to Katowice and then took the transportation from the airport to Krakow city where I stayed overnight in a hostel for two nights. I attended a free walking tour that was very interesting and booked the visit in the salt mines, something amazing!

Krakow is a really nice city to do all kinds of stuff from laying on the beach ( you should visit zakrzówek) to going clubbing (just go to the old town there is a lot of pubs and clubs) You should try "obwarzanek" and pierogis. If you have a lot of time you can go to polish Mountain (zakopane) or visit some historical places like aushitz-birkenau.

Krakow! My heart goes out to you! 🫶🏼 What a magical experience. It honestly felt like waking up to Narnia everyday. The food was incredible. People can seem rude as hell, but I don’t mind it because once you talk with them they are such a joy! I visited Auschwitz and Birkenau and anyone should go. We also got “scammed” or fell in a tourist trap by following some shiny lights to a game arcade. I had to buy new winter boots because my shoes got drenched by all the snow. And I love the shoes so much. I can’t really list all the things I did while visiting. But I would do it all again and I will return.

I really liked this town and I'm dreaming every day to come back and walk those streets again. This city is a dream come true tbh, the views, food and attractions are ON THE TOP, literally. Breads similar to bagels, called obważanki are amazing.

Solo travel

Krakow was my first solo trip ever and I’ve had half a day to explore the city between my flight connection to Aarhus. It turned out to be not as scary as I expected and although I was too petty to stay in the hotel for only 5 hours and decided to sleep on a bench in an airport, before, I had plenty of time to roam around and see AMAZING places. The thing I liked the most was the mix of old historical and contemporary architecture. Then goes the safety overall, I not one single time felt unsafe or tried to put my phone deeper in my pocket haha :). The prices were slightly lower than in Denmark, where I live right now. Overall, I underestimated Poland and next time I will go to (maybe?) Warsaw with my architect-student boyfriend to explore different corners of this beautiful country together! 🤟

I really like my time there, although when I try to call an Uber, they had the option “just for woman” that made me feel a little unsafe, because I never seen that option before, so it means something happen there! Then I ask for more details and it really had happened some cases of abuse to girls! But besides that, really loved everything and nothing happened to me

Krakow is a very nice city, I stayed in Bubble Hostel and i felt very safe, even though it was my first solo trip. Near Krakow it has many interesting activities and venues to see! I visited the salt mine and the Auschwitz camp. The salt mine was 100 zloty, which is not expensive and the Auschwitz camp was free without a guide. Also the old town is very pretty and is walkable! You should definitely visit the Wawel castle but be sure to have a lot of time ahead of you because it's huge!! Overall the experience was really good and I would recommend it for budget travelling! 😊

Group travel

I spent a day in Krakow, and it was quite an experience. The highlight was visiting the Wieliczka Salt Mine. The underground tunnels and chambers carved from salt were fascinating, especially the Chapel of St. Kinga with its detailed salt sculptures and chandeliers. After the mine, I walked around Krakow. The city’s architecture is stunning. The Wawel Castle by the Vistula River and the medieval buildings in the Old Town, especially around the Main Market Square and St. Mary’s Basilica, were impressive and beautiful. However, I wasn’t a fan of the local food. It was too heavy and greasy for my taste. The service in restaurants was also disappointing—slow and inattentive.

I stayed 15 minutes away from the Main Square. I felt extremely safe in this city as this was my first solo trip. I would definitely recommend Auschwitz, Salt Mine, Zakopane and Oscar’s Factory. There are all different kinds of restaurants in the main square. You can walk around the town very easy. There are buses, trams, Uber, bolt and taxis all available to travel to different parts.

Solo travel

People are usually very early drunk and also most of them are gona shout to you. Always walk with people from hostel or groups to skip that . There are a lot of bar crawling events and a lot of party hostels keep that in mind when you book your accommodation. Most of them are open to be joined so consider of booking a normal hostel in case you are not 100% in to that

I lived abroad for a couple of years and that showed me how living in Krakow and never witnessing a dangerous situation or felt uncomfortable, reassures me on the safety of Krakow. In Krakow I have the freedom of going out alone or with friends.

Krakow is very safe place to be. People are nice, you’d hardly ever hear men catcalling, especially throughout day time. You would hardly ever be robbed, let alone mugged. Nevertheless it applies only to the day time. At night I don’t feel safe at all. It’s alright when you are with your male friends, but if you are alone or with your female friends, it can be dangerous as many drunk men are walking, people can try to talk to you and all unpleasant pictures you can imagine. Last time I was going home from the trip at 4 a.m., and was asked by an old man if I wanted to be ripped. Also when I and my female friends were walking around the city at night, more than one group of men or boys would approach us and try to talk to us. But I have never faced such situations in the afternoon/morning.
