Overall I felt safe,as I walked the streets late at night and it was very fine. In generell ,I feel that men look at me often and depending on my mood I get angry by it fast or not... but there werent many that talked to me and I often just keep walking if they what more than a "hola". I loved just walked around in Barranco Seeing the streetart and going inti the free art galleries on the street down to the beach. The beach is also nice for long walks, you can walk to Miraflores, too,I love that!!! I cooked foood mostly in tze lovley hostel I was at, and I bought mostly everythig in the supermarket as I frel most comportable with it. In the market on the streets you can get fruut and vegetebles more special and cheaper also. I stay in the Hostel Passión d Corazón!I volunteered there also to pay less for staying there. I loved it! The peole there a very friendly and it is really trustful and family-like.
Posted: July 23, 2024Experienced: June, 2024I visited Cusco using a local travelers agency. The service was wonderful. Cusco is a beautiful city, with lots of historical interesting places to visit. The local food is one of the best in the world if you like experimenting new things. I personally felt safe because I made a few new friends along the trip, so I never was alone.

Ica is a super safe little town. There's not much to do, but the sand dunes are amazingly beautiful! They are even more beautiful at night if you can find a way to sneak onto them without anyone knowing 🤫

Cusco was a blast! This city is so cute and has so much to offer. I felt very safe and even walked after dark. The hostels are very comfortable and all the businesses are very welcoming. There are hidden gems everywhere and would definitely go back. Be cautious of the altitude change!
Posted: May 9, 2024I went to Peru in August and found it to be safe and people-friendly and pleasant. I recommend booking a stay in populated city center areas to be extra cautious, and hold your belongings in crowded areas but other than that, I found the place welcoming across Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley and Rainbow Mountain.
Posted: April 21, 2024From my experience, I can say that Peru is safe for solo female travelers as long as you stick to tourist areas. I visited Lima, Cusco, Colca Canyon, and Arequipa. Also went through 4 day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Met so many nice people and had the time of my life.
Posted: February 12, 2024I traveled to Peru in October and I felt very safe. Obviously, I was aware of pickpocketers and avoided walking alone at night but I never once felt unsafe and there were lots of other female travellers.
Posted: February 9, 2024I really fell in love with Lima, which I didn't expect, because I heared a lot of mixed stories from other travellers. You need to know which areas are safe, but especially in Barranco and Miraflores I felt super safe! A lot of cute restaurants and cafés, I'll definitely come back to stay here longer!

About my short but wonderful stay!: I went for an academic conference so my main focus wasn’t to explore, but the time I found to do so was worth it! I stayed with my friends at an Airbnb from which you could see the volcanos! The place was very safe and cheap (3 beds-2baths for 3 people). I reserved a full day to go to the Colca Valley and a couple pit stops on the way to thermal waters and a couple restaurants (breakfast and lunch). The full day tour costed around 50 soles (less than 20 USD). The tour agency picked me up close to my Airbnb and left me at the city center at the end - (Important: Booking a tour online can be more expensive. I booked it once I arrived at the city center, there are different offices that offer tours, and it’s always better to go with a local) (Also important: Be VERY specific with your request and remark that you’d like them to pick you up at your hotel/Airbnb. Might cost a little bit more but it’s the best option. I had a bit of an issue with this but I had help from someone from the vecinity. If you are solo-traveling it can be quite confusing and dangerous since this tours start very early, around 4-5 am). As we didn’t have much time to explore we had pizza every night 😂. We went to Piccola pizzeria, it wasn’t very expensive and the flavors were good! For breakfast and lunch we normally had sandwiches, we would buy avocados and fresh bread in the morning. There are nearby stores in most areas. Taxis are also pretty cheap. I know this might be a very disorganized review, but stay with this thought: I went to Colca Valley more than a year ago and to this day I still often remember watching the Condors flying up and down the Valley. For a second they make you forge everything around you and you get to feel just as free as them, cutting the air with their wings. It’s an experience that I recommend a lot. And even if you only get to go to the city, it’s wonderful to be so close to the volcanos! You can totally feel the energy. If you are able to go or have any questions feel free to reach me by ig! mfgcc_
Posted: January 6, 2024I traveled alone to Peru. I visited Lima, Cusco (I took a train to Machu Picchu), made a trip to the Amazon from Puerto Maldonado, and also trekked through the Colca Canyon, Arequipa and Lake Titicaca. I primarily traveled by buses, with the exception of an internal flight to the Amazon. I didn't feel unsafe, but I definitely got a lot of catcalls walking around Lima. I recommend using the same common sense as anywhere else in Latin America, e.g. don't walk alone down dark, secluded alleys (I walked down dark, busy streets in safe areas), keep an eye on your belongings, be careful with your drinks and your cell phone, trust your instincts when dealing with strangers, ask your hotel about anything that raises your questions (e.g. how much a taxi to the airport should cost, etc.).

Lima is a chaotic capital, but there's no need to be afraid. I've felt equally unsafe in almost all capitals. In Lima, what might surprise you is the traffic, so you have to be very careful when crossing the street.

Lima is a big and chaotic city. If you stay in the main central districts (Miraflores, Barranco, Surco, San Isidro) you’ll be relatively ok. As a local, I wouldn’t take out my phone on the street as robbers can easily take it out of your hands if they’re on motorcycles. I feel safe walking during the day alone in those districts, without earphones (or hidden behind my ears), and without my phone on sight. Public transport is alright for women. You can always run into a creep but it’s not common. If you do however, don’t hesitate to speak up as locals will side with you and help you out. If you’re taking public transportation, prioritise big buses, the Metropolitano and the train. On the subject of taxis, I feel safe taking Ubers during the day, although I always share a screenshot of the drivers information, I check that it matches the person that comes to pick me up, and if I feel unsafe for whatever reason I share my location. I have also called my parents to explicitly tell them I’m on my way home. I’ve also just been on calls, I feel like no one would risk trying a move (robbing, kidnapping, etc) if I’m on a call, but maybe it’s a false sense of safety… If you’re going to districts along the coastline, try to not be on your own in the taxi as there are deserted parts of the cost, specially towards Chorrillos (south) and San Miguel (north) where cases of raped by taxi drivers have happened before. If I have to go home on my own after 2 or 3 am, I usually call Taxi San Borja. I'm not sure if they have an app but it's a proper taxi service, more expensive than Uber, but I feel safe using it late at night.

One of my best experiences in life traveling alone. Peru is incredible, amazing food and people. So many places to visit that I could spend months and wouldn’t be able to see everything. I would definitely recommend.

If Peru isn’t in your bucket list, I would add it. Peru took me by surprise as, at the time, I had never seen such beauty. I used the tour company called Peru Hop and i absolutely loved the style of travel. They are essentially a full service company and your personal body guards lol I spent a week exploring starting in Lima, spent a night in each new city, learned about their rich culture and biodiversity, and of course visited Machu Picchu. You’ll love it.
