I love visiting Groningen - I absolutely recommend renting a bike to get the actual local authentic experience. The city museum is just fantastic, food options are diverse and exciting, lots of nice bars and cofee places, especially in the city centre and close to Rijksuniversity. The park is also a must see, and coffeeshops are safe also for a solo travellers that wants to try!

So far so good! Still got a few days to spare, but I've seen some of the city and explored a bit on Mt own without any problems.

Groningen is overall a safe and also beautiful city. The only downside (from what i've heard, thankfully not experienced) is the night life. It's said to be pretty unsafe for women to go clubbing and walking alone around the city at night. I haven't had any problems clubbing and walking around myself though.

Lived there for a year. Very safe city. The biggest nuisance is bike theft and drunk students yelling on on the streets while cycling home. But I have wandered around the city centre pretty much every time of day and never have I felt unsafe.
