I love visiting Groningen - I absolutely recommend renting a bike to get the actual local authentic experience. The city museum is just fantastic, food options are diverse and exciting, lots of nice bars and cofee places, especially in the city centre and close to Rijksuniversity. The park is also a must see, and coffeeshops are safe also for a solo travellers that wants to try!
Posted: July 23, 2024Experienced: July, 2024Groningen is an absolutely beautiful university city that is definitely worth visiting during a train trip to the north. Its stunning architecture and lively nightlife every day of the week, full of young people, are captivating. I felt very safe there.

So far so good! Still got a few days to spare, but I've seen some of the city and explored a bit on Mt own without any problems.

Groningen is a student city, lots of nightlife, I've never felt unsafe in the city. I walked alone at night many times and always felt safe. People are very welcoming and there are many international people, everyone speaks English
Posted: November 3, 2024I've lived in Groningen for about 4,5 years and never had a reason to feel truly unsafe. Of course, caution should be exercised when participating in the night life (always protect your drink!), but even going out can be done alone.
