I love visiting Groningen - I absolutely recommend renting a bike to get the actual local authentic experience. The city museum is just fantastic, food options are diverse and exciting, lots of nice bars and cofee places, especially in the city centre and close to Rijksuniversity. The park is also a must see, and coffeeshops are safe also for a solo travellers that wants to try!

Sometimes there are some drunk people on the streets but they are not dangerous. There are some groups of boys in some parts of the city but they do not bother anyone except maybe if they know you and have a personal problem with you.
Posted: February 13, 2025During the day you can walk safely on the streets by yourself. At night you might encountering some strange types. fortunately there is a lot of camera control and security. In general a safe city. Personally I never felt unsafe.
