Solo travel experience

I love visiting Groningen - I absolutely recommend renting a bike to get the actual local authentic experience. The city museum is just fantastic, food options are diverse and exciting, lots of nice bars and cofee places, especially in the city centre and close to Rijksuniversity. The park is also a must see, and coffeeshops are safe also for a solo travellers that wants to try!

Groningen is a safe, small city with many students. As there is a sparkling, young nightlife, there are often more people on the streets. However as with any city there are streets you should not walk alone at night (still chances are low something will happen).

I cycled back home at varying times during the night for many years and only had a problem a few times so I would say Groningen is relatively safe. Be careful as you go out of the city into the countryside because this is where I encountered casualties.
