Maastricht is generally quite safe at night, especially in well-lit and populated areas. The city has a low crime rate and the locals are usually friendly and willing to assist. While it is important to always be vigilant and aware of your surroundings, solo female travelers should feel comfortable walking alone at night. Like all cities, it has its share of petty crimes, so avoid poorly-lit areas and always keep your belongings secure.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Maastricht is generally reliable and safe, even at night. Bus lines cover most of the city and surrounding areas and they are frequently used by locals, students and tourists alike. However, like with any other place, it's always important to remain alert and aware of your surroundings, especially if you're traveling alone or during off-peak hours. Buses and trains are well-lit, regularly patrolled and most of them have CCTV cameras installed.

Street harassment:Very low

Maastricht is generally a safe city for female solo travelers. Street harassment is not a prevalent issue here. It is checked often to ensure its safety and quality. Therefore, you can confidently drink the tap water without needing to buy bottled water. This makes it not only a convenient choice but also an environmentally friendly one.

Is Maastricht safe to travel?

Group travel experience

I went on a girls trip with three friends to Maastricht. One of my friends studies there so being with a local helped me feel safe in the city but the city is definitely safe without a local to help! It's a university city so there are students milling about at all hours of the day and night, so as three girls walking home from the bar at 2am, we did not feel nervous at all.

although it is a university city with lots of young people, it does get pretty empty and quiet, even in the city center after dark which might make it feel scary. not necessarily meaning it is unsafe however the emptiness isnt very comforting, especially if you are used to living in big cities
