Maastricht was wonderful - super cute old town, cute university. There is a church that has been completely converted into a bookshop, I can totally recommend it! Sitting by the river in the evening is also great, there are lots of young open-minded people in the city. Everything is within walking distance - I didn't stay there but the prices for food were like in the surrounding countries.
Posted: May 4, 2025Experienced: March, 2025I went on a girls trip with three friends to Maastricht. One of my friends studies there so being with a local helped me feel safe in the city but the city is definitely safe without a local to help! It's a university city so there are students milling about at all hours of the day and night, so as three girls walking home from the bar at 2am, we did not feel nervous at all.

Easily one of the safest cities in the Netherlands to be in, however this from a local who knows what areas to stay in after certain hours. Always important to be aware as anything can happen, however Maastricht has not been an unsafe place for me for the past 10 years
Posted: May 29, 2025It's a very calm and secure city, I've never experienced anything problematic, and my surroundings just told me to keep an eye on your bikes, depending on where you park them and also to your wallet and phone during Carnival, nothing further than that.
