Maastricht was wonderful - super cute old town, cute university. There is a church that has been completely converted into a bookshop, I can totally recommend it! Sitting by the river in the evening is also great, there are lots of young open-minded people in the city. Everything is within walking distance - I didn't stay there but the prices for food were like in the surrounding countries.
Posted: May 4, 2025Experienced: March, 2025I went on a girls trip with three friends to Maastricht. One of my friends studies there so being with a local helped me feel safe in the city but the city is definitely safe without a local to help! It's a university city so there are students milling about at all hours of the day and night, so as three girls walking home from the bar at 2am, we did not feel nervous at all.

It's a nice university city, old streets and pretty buildings. Good public transportation and safe roads (bikes are more respectful than in other Dutch cities!). The only unsafe places could be those that are residential at night, there are local teens (and teenagers are quite crazy).

As an alternative looking and often pretty open-dressed woman - i feel safe here; ofc like everywhere - people can be rude but it is nothing extra or special in Maastricht at all. sometimes i see some hooligan man packs 😁 but i make fun of them and don't see them as a threat :))

Maastricht is an overall very safe place. I can walk by myself at night without any problems! The only concern is that many bikes get stolen (but that concerns the Netherlands generally). Also the police often patrol many poorly lit streets and parks!
Posted: January 8, 2026I've been living here for a year now and have never had anything bad happen to me. City center seems very safe. I sometimes feel a little uncomfortable in certain neighbourhoods at night(certain parts of caberg and malberg) which my house is close to, and I've heard there's some trouble there, but I've personally never had any incidents.

As a girl, I always come home on my own at night by bike and I always feel very safe. Of course, you should always try to stay cautious no matter where you are, but Maastricht is a safe city even for solo women.
Posted: October 12, 2025You need to look out for your bike being stolen or being sexually harassed but other than that I don’t have any experiences where I was robbed. One time i was partly followed home and yelled at by a drunk person but other than that no.

I’m someone who loves deep conversations but can also laugh at the most random things. I’m into self-improvement (gym era activated💪), psychology, and understanding how people think, but I promise I’m not psychoanalyzing you… unless you ask😆. I appreciate honesty, emotional maturity, and good energy. I like structure and goals, but I also enjoy spontaneous moments and simple vibes. If you’re open-minded, real, and can hold a meaningful convo, we’ll probably get along.
