Maastricht was wonderful - super cute old town, cute university. There is a church that has been completely converted into a bookshop, I can totally recommend it! Sitting by the river in the evening is also great, there are lots of young open-minded people in the city. Everything is within walking distance - I didn't stay there but the prices for food were like in the surrounding countries.
Posted: May 4, 2025Experienced: March, 2025I went on a girls trip with three friends to Maastricht. One of my friends studies there so being with a local helped me feel safe in the city but the city is definitely safe without a local to help! It's a university city so there are students milling about at all hours of the day and night, so as three girls walking home from the bar at 2am, we did not feel nervous at all.

Maastricht is a lovely little city here in the south of the Netherlands At night, stay away from places like: the bassin and noorderbrug (bridge) the city centre is pretty safe all year and day round but ofcourse use your common senses. Id say left side of the river (where the centre centre is) is probably a little less safe feeling wise. Especially the neighborhoods around brusselse poort (shopping centre). On the right side of the river stay away from noorderbrug coming in there and those surrounding area’s from nazaret to witte vrouwenveld At night

Easily one of the safest cities in the Netherlands to be in, however this from a local who knows what areas to stay in after certain hours. Always important to be aware as anything can happen, however Maastricht has not been an unsafe place for me for the past 10 years
