How safe is Poitiers?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Poitiers is generally quite safe at night. It is a smaller city with a lower rate of crime compared to major metropolitan areas. Nevertheless, it's always worth taking standard precautions such as keeping an eye on your belongings and sticking to well-lit, populated areas, especially when walking alone. The city is pretty quiet at night due to its size and the nature of its residents, which consists of a large student and elderly population.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Public transportation in Poitiers is generally reliable and safe. The public bus network, managed by Vitalis, is extensive and well-connected, providing both intra-city and inter-city services. Trains are also a popular mode of transport, with the city being a major railway hub. Common issues might include occasional late buses or trains. The local population is friendly and willing to help, however, it's always recommended to be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings secure. It is also important to respect the local culture and public transportation rules.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Poitiers is generally a safe and welcoming city with a very low level of street harassment. Most locals are respectful, and while it's always recommended to remain vigilant, particularly during the night or in less crowded places, incidents of street harassment are quite rare. It's important to remember to always respect local customs and behaviors to ensure personal safety.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Poitiers is typically considered a safe place to visit with petty crimes such as pickpocketing or small theft being relatively low. While it is always important to take precautions by keeping an eye on your personal belongings, the general consensus is that occurrences of these petty crimes are not a widespread issue.

Poitiers is overall a safe city, however since it’s very small, you’re often alone in the streets when you’re out and especially at night. I would not recommend to walk at night alone but apart from that it’s a cute little city with nice architecture !
