How safe is Perpignan?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Perpignan, though being a smaller city, is generally safe even during night. Of course, as with any place, caution should be exercised, especially in less crowded and dimly lit streets. Try to avoid isolated areas and always be aware of your surroundings. Public transport and taxis are readily available, so use them if you feel uncomfortable walking alone later in the evening. Besides these points, most places in Perpignan are quite safe at night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Perpignan, is generally safe to use. The buses and trains are reliable and well-maintained. The stations and platforms are mostly clean and have sufficient lightings, providing a secure environment. It is safe even during the night, though there might be fewer passengers and services. As with any location, always be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings for personal safety, especially during rush hours when pickpocketing could potentially occur. However, incidents are, by and large, few and far between, making Perpignan a pretty secure city for solo female travelers thinking of using public transport.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Perpignan generally offers a peaceful and respectful environment for its visitors. Despite it being a bustling city, incidents of street harassment are quite low. As in any city, it's always important to be aware of your surroundings, but you can generally expect to go about your day with minimal discomfort or annoyance. It is advised to adopt the usual street safety measures such as avoiding poorly-lit or deserted areas at night. Overall, Perpignan embodies the warmth and respect often associated with smaller European cities.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Perpignan, like most small to medium-sized cities in France, has a relatively low level of petty crime. As a solo traveler, the most common issue you may encounter is pick-pocketing, particularly in busy areas or on public transport. However, street crimes like muggings or assaults are less common. Still, it's important to use common sense: stay alert in crowded places, keep your belongings secure, and avoid showing off valuable items openly. Finally, always be aware of your surroundings and do not travel to secluded or poorly lit areas alone, especially at night.

I don't feel insecure at the moment, in the 2 years I've lived here everything has always gone well. But I've already had the echo of several robberies. It's a city where wealthy and extremely precarious people live together, which may explain these situations. But it's still a very touristy region
