How safe is Guadeloupe?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Guadeloupe is generally a safe place for solo female travelers. While major cities and tourist areas are regularly patrolled and well-lit, it's always smart to maintain caution when walking alone at night. Some districts can become less safe after dark and it's advisable to avoid isolated areas and beaches. It's best to use reputable transportation services if you need to travel at night. Always trust your instincts and if something feels wrong, move to a public, well-lit area as quickly as possible.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Guadeloupe is considered generally safe. Buses are the most common form of transport and are well-maintained and reliable. Taxis are regulated, metered, and drivers are usually courteous and professional. However, services can be infrequent in remote areas and public transport often ceases in the early evening. Always be aware of your surroundings and keep personal belongings secure.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Traveling in Guadeloupe is usually a safe and trouble-free experience. However, like anywhere else, there might be some occasional instances of verbal street harassment, such as inappropriate commentaries or catcalling. Ensure you use common sense, like in any foreign setting, especially in isolated areas, to reduce the possibility of such experiences. Overall, locals are friendly and respectful, making Guadeloupe a generally comfortable travel destination.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Guadeloupe is generally a safe country with respect to petty crime. Although instances like pick-pocketing or bag snatching do occur occasionally, especially in crowded tourist spots, they are not rampant. It's always advised to keep an eye on personal belongings and practice common sense.

Is Guadeloupe worth visiting?

Family travel

My experience was amazing !! I really recommend :) I did feel quite wary when i landed but two days in and i was hooked 🤩 I felt super safe, locals are friendly and welcoming ! I ate some delicious food everywhere I went 😋 Besides that I can’t really tell about the budget because my parents were in charge of everything, like the hotel where we stayed at and the pick up we rented for transport (wich i don’t really recommend in case it starts raining)!

Is Guadeloupe safe for women?

Guadeloupe is a beautiful place but it is important to be careful and to not go to dangerous neighborhoods. It is also important to take in consideration that, even thought this island is paradise-looking, it also is one of the most dangerous french department with a high criminality rate. My best advice is to do some research before coming because i've seen so many people put themselves in danger without even realizing it.

About Me

Hey everyone, My name is Sofia and I’m a nomad :) I originally come from Switzerland but I escaped the cold & busy lifestyle for a calmer one. I currently live in Guadeloupe - a french Caribbean island. Having swiss-guinean-senegalese roots I started to see the world as my home when I still was very young. I would love to connect with likeminded women and learn more about this beautiful world we live in. Optimistic, passionate, loving, curious, creative soul living this human experience 😉
