Is Amiens Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Amiens is generally considered a safe city for solo female travelers. Despite its safety, travelers should take normal precautions such as avoiding walking alone in isolated or poorly lit areas late at night, and being aware of their belongings, particularly in crowded areas. There is little serious crime, but petty crime like pickpocketing can occasionally happen. The local people are friendly and the city itself is easy to navigate with a well-organized public transportation system.

How safe is Amiens?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Amiens is generally safe to walk around at night, especially in the areas near the city center. Like most cities, it’s always safe to be cautious and aware of your surroundings, particularly if you are alone. Areas near tourist attractions, open eateries, and cafes are typically lively and secure. Nonetheless, it's always a good rule of thumb to avoid empty, poorly lit streets or areas that seem desolate to add an extra layer of personal safety.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Amiens is quite safe especially during daytime. The city has a good network of buses and a reliable tram system. However, like anywhere else, it's recommended to stay alert and aware of your surroundings particularly during late hours. Always check the schedules ahead of time to avoid waiting alone at stops.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Amiens, being a relatively small and student-populated city in France, offers a generally safe environment for solo female travelers. However, like any city worldwide, isolated incidents of street harassment may occur but are not widespread. Always remember to stay alert and vigilant, especially during the late hours.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Amiens is relatively safe compared to other areas. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing or bag snatching can occur, especially in crowded tourist-heavy places and public transport. Amiens is a medium-sized town and I feel safe here during the day. I'm more careful in the evening and I've already been annoyed when leaving bars. As in most places, you need to be vigilant, but there is no particular danger in this city, especially if you stay in the city center.

During the day, Amiens is a safe city but I've been told not to go out alone at night. I've never been harassed in the street but some men called me while I was just walking on the pathway and I didn't feel reassured.
