It's safe during the day mostly but there is some teenagers robbing all the time. I didn't have a bad experience myself, just people asking for ciharettes and beer all the time, the broke my car wimdow too and brake into my house but didn't steal anything.
Posted: December 24, 2024I have lived in Alice Springs for over 6 years. It is a place that is an incredible mix of people and has a lot to offer. It is however pretty segregated as a whole. There is ongoing colonisation with the widespread trauma, disenfranchisement and entrenched poverty that results. Also the media sensationalises and scapegoats without looking deeper and putting blame where it is due. You need to be street wise in Alice Springs, not go out walking after dark on your own. There isn’t really any public transport to speak of- a few buses. Try to learn about Indigenous culture and what is appropriate here, with 40% of the population being Indigenous. Learn about the history of this place from the Indigenous people who live here, learn about safety from them too.
