A small city, good for a city break. One day was enough for me to see the sights. In my opinion, it's safe, but at stations, stops, and on buses, I was sometimes approached by homeless people. When they heard I didn't speak their language, they left me alone. Great local wine.
Posted: May 16, 2025Experienced: December, 2024I spent some time in Slovakia, and I honestly loved it. I felt very safe the whole time — the atmosphere was calm and welcoming. Compared to Germany, the prices were amazing, which made the trip even more enjoyable. I went there with two girls, and it was just perfect: peaceful, fun, and a great experience overall.
Posted: May 12, 2025I felt pretty safe in Bratislava during the day but less at night, especially around the Centrum bus station and the Obchodná street. So, I will recommend you to go out with other people and not alone in this city. I really like the Devin Castle with beautiful landscape of nature, very relaxing. I enjoyed a lot too the city Center and the view from the castle and muzeum mesta bratislavy I will recommend the spot “Pasteleria” for the coffee time

I really enjoyed hitchhiking in Slovakia. I crossed the country from east to west and felt very welcomed everywhere. Bratislava has crazy nightlife, you definitely don't wanna miss this city. I've stayed in Wild Elephants hostel and that is just a crazy place!
Posted: December 29, 2024Experienced: June, 2024I love Košice, but there are some dark places. If you are not local or with someone that knows the town very well, I would not recommend exploring side streets, because a lot of time u can meet there junkies or just some very weird people. The city is known for its beautiful square but also for that there are a lot of junkies. But otherwise it is safe to hang out on the main street and other popular places.

In the city centre there’s a high probability to see people under the influence. Some homeless men are too. But they are chill and not aggressive. If you come to Bratislava by bus, I would recommend to go until the stop Bus Station “Mlinsky Nivy” (under the central mall, where all FlixBus and other companies are), because its located in the mall, there’s a lot of security, light and toilets

i’ve lived here for 5 years and i feel safe walking alone in the evening or at night, did that a lot of times, basic precautions should be taking into account though. i would recommend trying to stay out of dark, “dead” areas at night, not talking to strangers and of course not getting into anyone’s car unless it’s a taxi (i personally am anxious and i don’t like taking taxis alone, but we have a lot of buses and trams circulating around the city almost all the time so it’s a great option too). other than that, it’s a pretty safe city

I personally didn’t feel safe in Bratislava there is a lot of poverty and people begging for money. Although some places are nicer the lack of welfare is still very clear throughout the whole city. The vibes for me felt off too. I would only recommend to visit it for a day trip if you really want to see the city. It is also very small, I saw everything in about 3 hours, with me taking it very slowly.
Posted: October 30, 2025Pretty safe in the centre of city, there are of course some creep’s walking after midnight and I would rather not be walking alone. But I have never been in situation where I’m scared for my safety. So overall it’s safe to solo travel for woman in Bratislava if you are not planning to go further from centre after midnight:)

I was never worried of walking alone at night, but it’s still good to be observant, some people can scream from their cars, but most of the times it’s just stupid teenegers boys, who think the word is made just for them.

Hi, I’m Meruert from Kazakhstan, now living in Bratislava. I enjoy discovering new places, good coffee, and simple moments that make life feel real. I’ve been working in hospitality for several years — coffee and people are a big part of my world. I’ve joined barista and latte art competitions, and I love sharing what I know with others. I speak Kazakh, Russian, Slovak, and English, and I like learning about different cultures and stories. I’m easygoing, curious, and open-minded. Traveling for me is not just about visiting places, but about feeling the atmosphere and connecting with people. If you like calm energy, good talks, and spontaneous plans — we’ll probably get along ☕🌍
