I’m local. I feel very safe walking in the daylight and using the public transport. At night i would recommend staying on the main streets, but overall it’s safe at night, even more so in the summer, because there is a lot of festivals
Posted: July 14, 2025It's pretty safe city. The transportation is good usually. There are a lot of homeless people I must say. I have to be careful to not get robbed. At night I would never walk alone because there are a lot of dangerous people
Posted: July 3, 2025Slovakia is very safe country in almost every place. Every city is very safe maybe some drunks but they are not harmful. I would be worried maybe in the main city Bratislava, but only during the night.
Posted: July 3, 2025if you stay in public parts of the city with a bunch of people around its safe, but i would be careful in the dark in less crowded places. I have never personally experienced anything serious but you can never be too safe.
Posted: June 23, 2025Banská Bystrica is a relatively quiet and small city. It's a place where you can feel safe, even after dark. I've often walked home at night, and I know that nothing is likely to happen here, so I can comfortably go for a walk even late in the evening. In the evenings, there aren’t many people on the streets, except in the city center where the main restaurants and bars are located. In the morning and during the day, everything is calm as well.
Posted: June 12, 2025Bratislava is overall safe but there are some places like Vrakuňa, Dubrávka or Trnávka that i dont recommend to visit. Walking alone at night gets me worries but its not as bad as in other countries. Stay safe :)

A small city, good for a city break. One day was enough for me to see the sights. In my opinion, it's safe, but at stations, stops, and on buses, I was sometimes approached by homeless people. When they heard I didn't speak their language, they left me alone. Great local wine.
Posted: May 16, 2025Experienced: December, 2024I spent some time in Slovakia, and I honestly loved it. I felt very safe the whole time — the atmosphere was calm and welcoming. Compared to Germany, the prices were amazing, which made the trip even more enjoyable. I went there with two girls, and it was just perfect: peaceful, fun, and a great experience overall.
