A small city, good for a city break. One day was enough for me to see the sights. In my opinion, it's safe, but at stations, stops, and on buses, I was sometimes approached by homeless people. When they heard I didn't speak their language, they left me alone. Great local wine.
Posted: May 16, 2025Experienced: December, 2024I spent some time in Slovakia, and I honestly loved it. I felt very safe the whole time — the atmosphere was calm and welcoming. Compared to Germany, the prices were amazing, which made the trip even more enjoyable. I went there with two girls, and it was just perfect: peaceful, fun, and a great experience overall.
Posted: May 12, 2025I felt pretty safe in Bratislava during the day but less at night, especially around the Centrum bus station and the Obchodná street. So, I will recommend you to go out with other people and not alone in this city. I really like the Devin Castle with beautiful landscape of nature, very relaxing. I enjoyed a lot too the city Center and the view from the castle and muzeum mesta bratislavy I will recommend the spot “Pasteleria” for the coffee time

I really enjoyed hitchhiking in Slovakia. I crossed the country from east to west and felt very welcomed everywhere. Bratislava has crazy nightlife, you definitely don't wanna miss this city. I've stayed in Wild Elephants hostel and that is just a crazy place!
Posted: December 29, 2024Experienced: June, 2024I love Košice, but there are some dark places. If you are not local or with someone that knows the town very well, I would not recommend exploring side streets, because a lot of time u can meet there junkies or just some very weird people. The city is known for its beautiful square but also for that there are a lot of junkies. But otherwise it is safe to hang out on the main street and other popular places.
Posted: December 24, 2024Experienced: January, 2023First of all, I would like to say that it is a very safe place for solo travel. Prices are not too high compared to other European cities. Their most famous dish is similar to halusky niyokki. you can try. Slavin, Slovak National Gallery, Blue Church, Bratislava Castle, Devin Castle are the places you should definitely go. 2 days will be enough to visit the whole city. It was pretty easy to find the buses with google maps. local people were very helpful. They generally know English. In summary, it is a place where you can go and see, but you should not keep expectatiın very high.

if you stay in public parts of the city with a bunch of people around its safe, but i would be careful in the dark in less crowded places. I have never personally experienced anything serious but you can never be too safe.
Posted: June 23, 2025Banská Bystrica is a relatively quiet and small city. It's a place where you can feel safe, even after dark. I've often walked home at night, and I know that nothing is likely to happen here, so I can comfortably go for a walk even late in the evening. In the evenings, there aren’t many people on the streets, except in the city center where the main restaurants and bars are located. In the morning and during the day, everything is calm as well.
