Is Portugal safe for solo female travelers?

Portugal is generally a safe country for solo female travelers. It has a lower crime rate compared to other European countries. Portuguese people are known for their hospitality and are always willing to help. As with any travel destination, it is important to stay aware of your surroundings and follow common sense rules such as keeping your belongings secure. Even though the country is safe, I would still recommend you blend in with the locals as much as possible to not draw unnecessary attention to yourself.

How safe is Portugal for solo female travelers?

Lisbon, Group travel

Lisbon is one of the most gorgeous and unique cities that I've been to so far! In the summer it can get very crowded so months like May/September/October are ideal while it's still super sunny. It's overall cheap when it comes to food and shopping and the locals are very friendly. If you don't mind the mild workout you'll have to do beacause of the heels I would 100% recommended for a fun girls trip!!

Lagos, Solo travel

I went to Lagos with my friend and it was so much fun. Through the platform we got to know the sweetest girl who would join our trip later and hosted us at her house for 3 nights. The experience was amazing.

Portugal, Couple travel

A lot of heat and walking, but great food and bread! I still think about the food in porto (Patio 44/ Vinology Wine Bar) or the tiny tinfish restaurant in almada with live music (Petisco da Lata Bistrô)!! Beware of scams!

Porto, Solo travel

My solo trip to Porto was amazing overall. The city center feels very safe and welcoming, especially during the day. I was a bit uneasy returning to my apartment in the evenings because the street was quiet and not very crowded. The public transport system is a little confusing: the price depends on how many zones you cross, and the last ticket you bought is automatically deducted from your card, not the one that best fits your route. I’d recommend researching the transport system in advance...

Lisbon

There is opportunist people in Lisbon, so be very aware of your belongings. Specially in public transportation. Be also careful with people trying to sell you not legal stuff, careful with your drink in a bar.

Aveiro

Aveiro is a very safe city, and I would even say it's one of the safest in Portugal. It has a quiet and welcoming environment suitable for solo female travelers and families, characterized by a lively atmosphere thanks to our university student population.

Lagos

Lagos is safe everywhere so far, I was born here and never had any problem until midnight except on rua 25 de abril where the bars are, near Bonvivant bar I don't recomend. Some beaches might have some men looking but they are just perverts

Viana Do Castelo

I've walked alone at night many times and at always felt safe. Even places the bus and train stations are really clean and used by everyone. If you ask for directions or restaurant recommendations, people are happy to help (and practice their English or French). The city is really quiet at night.
