You need to be cautious, by day the only big issue are pickpockets and some scammers, besides that is usually pretty safe, by night it truly deepens on the area but try to never walk alone (men exist) :/

It is generally safe if you avoid certain neighborhoods such as "Mouraria" "Bairro Alto" and some suburbs. Never get drunk if you're alone, never get an uber/bolt if you're drunk or unconscious (prefer normal taxi) and always share the ride info with friends or family.

I've never heard of any crime around here, no muggings, no rapes, no murders, nothing, it's almost annoying how safe this place is. But yes, it's basically impossible for anyone to be a victim of any crime around here haha
Posted: April 12, 2025My experience is as a portuguese woman, so I have a level of confidence and comfort that doesn't allow me to see with eyes of someone who's never been here. Portugal is overall safe. As a woman, what bothers me the most are the interactions with men - but it's usually just staring, or once in a while some annoying comment. However, I wouldn't walk alone through lonely areas of the city at night. There's a high amount of homeless people and usually it's not a problem, except every once in a while when they ask for money, we say no, and they react poorly. Nonetheless, overall I feel safe, people are very nice and caring and will help you if you need!

Bragança is a very safe and peaceful city, especially for students and international residents. People are friendly and respectful, and it's common to walk around even late at night without feeling unsafe. The community is quiet, and crime rates are very low. It’s a calm place where you can focus on your studies and enjoy the beauty of nature without worrying about safety.

Portugal is the safest European city i guess! For a woman, you can trust and travel with calmly! Portuguese people are very kind and friendly, I have never experienced theft, I have never experienced harassment. The people here are very calm and relaxed, they are the most respectful and sweet people I have ever met.

Portugal is really safe overall :) I feel good here and not in danger most of the time. I haven't been in cities that much and am on the country side but I would still rate it as a very familiar and cozy place.

It's a very safe neighbourhood. People are very chill and the amount of tourists ensure a decent overseeing by the police. My landlord says that has never been a B&E in the 60 yeara he has living in the building.

Portugal
We went to Porto for a day trip. It is about 3 hours away from Bragança by flixbus. We used the metro as public transportation. I found the metro ticket a bit expensive. The atmosphere was very nice. You can see street musicians in some places and they are really good. There were a lot of tourists. This makes the place more fun.
