There are many Indians and Arabs on the streets who harass women. In general, the port is safe if you are in areas with lots of people, such as tourist spots or walking on the streets. At night, I do not recommend going alone in isolated areas (for example, in the riverside it's safe at night because there are many people).

I think that Lisbon is a safe city in general. Of course, as a solo female I have to pay attention on what is around me, specially at night. But I have never been robbed, or experienced anything similar.
Posted: May 6, 2025Lisbon doesn’t feel really safe to me. Cascais is more calm. Walking alone at night in Lisbon feels unsafe and I always want to be near light and group of SOBER people. On Fridays and weekends there are lot of drunk people. It makes non drinking people uncomfortable.

It depends on the place, Lisbon can be very beautiful but sometimes dangerous, if it's in the center of Lisbon, I'm not much of a night out person, but when I did go out, my experiences weren't all that bad, but sometimes there are people, especially men (as expected) who can be a bit aggressive, either because they're drunk or because they want trouble, or maybe both, nothing has ever happened to me directly.

Lisbon is a very safe city, overall. I believe it's considered the 3rd safest ciry in the World, and with good reason. Of course there's worries, walking alone at night will always be a scary thing no matter where you are, but I'd say the people are nice and helpful and, most times, it'll be easy to get out of any tough situations you could find yourself in.
Posted: April 30, 2025It's a very quiet small town, I personally have never had any problems with security. There are nice people and the environment is peaceful. I would just be more careful at night, because there are some dark streets but the probability of something happening is low, but you never know stay always alert!
Posted: April 26, 2025Lisbon is a very safe town. I Lived there for a few months and never had a problem while going home late. I was never bothered by men outside or never stopped in the street. As a female solo traveller, it feels very safe.

overall, portugal is a very safe country. many people are very courteous and helpful. as a woman, you rarely get a lot of abuse, but it's not that much. on public transport you are very safe and feel comfortable. most people mind their own business.
Posted: April 22, 2025I feel very safe in most parts of Lisbon. I don’t really go to the bars at night alone or walk around areas late at night alone though. I think most women feel perfectly safe in Lisbon and other than some catcalling, there’s nothing to worry about
Posted: April 19, 2025It's the kind of city usually described as very safe, as long as you know where not to go and how to keep a low profile in times needed, you won't really face any trouble. However there are always enough crimes and assaults to keep you very alert out in the streets

In porto we walk a lot, to see many things. To eat you have to try rice at tomato it is very very good, of course if you like rice and tomato. You have to go at the top of the city you can have a beautiful point of view.
Posted: May 7, 2025Porto is a very beautiful city and I think it is really similar to İstanbul. Maybe I think in this way beacuse I'm Turkish but anyway both are great and beautiful cities. I stayed there 1 night. I booked a hostel which was far away from the main streets and I don't recommend it because I needed uber and I couldn't pay because I don't have a credit card and they don't accept cash and I wanted help from the owner. He helped, so I can say people are warm. Also, I recommend you to go "Livrarie Lelle" which is a little bookshop but so beautifull! They sell their tickets online for visiting! It was a great place and I also recommend to eat nata! It's sweet and creamy

Hello, I'm Hellena ☺️ I am a Brazilian history student currently living in Portugal. I've been in Portugal since January/25 to study in Coimbra university and since then I've met so many good friends and would love to know many more from many different cultures. I love travelling 🧳 and I'm currently working from home, so I'm looking for some good new places to go!
