Madurai is pretty safe. The people are friendly and would love to help foreigners in giving directions and whatnot. General cautions like walking alone at night in dark alleys must be avoided. The public transportation is safe. There are many pre booked taxi services available as well for sightseeing purpose.

I’m an ESL instructor who loves travelling and taking pictures. I started travelling solo four years ago and am looking forward to meeting people from different cultures and learning about their cultures to be more confident and comfortable in travelling alone. Madurai is my hometown and I’d love to share insights into the city if anyone’s looking for exploring the southern gems of India.
