Kolkata used to be a safe place previously but now I wouldn't say it is the same. There are only some localities that I find safe to roam around after dark, specifically the area around Dhakuria Lake or the Rash Behari Avenue and some places in Saltlake.

The city is busy, some parts more than others. So there’s thoroughfare throughout, you’d find traffic at bust junctions even 2am on some nights! Some parts are sketchy, like most cities, but even then, I’d say it’s relatively safer if you are smart about avoiding those
Posted: September 1, 2025I went to West bengal some months ago. I loved it there. But I think trains are not always very safe for girls? I was almost groped by 2 different men on the same day on the same train. So it was a nightmare. It was rush hour. I guess I should have been more careful. But I was literally sitting beside my mom and a man came and sat near me. Since my bag was on my lap it kinda provided him a cover and he moved his hands towards me which freaked me out and so I moved my bag from my lap to give other ppl a view of what he was doing and he immediately moved his hand. Hated that experience. That was the only time when I hated it there.
Posted: August 31, 2025Mumbaii is overall a safe place for women but I can't say that it is 100% safe as anything can happen if you're alone..... Stilll it's quite safe as the city is busy even at night. The city has women only train compartmentss..... However, like any large city, risks exist particularly at night, in isolated places, or late night transport..... Mumbaii offers a mix of strong infrastructure and public presence that makes it safer than most big cities...... buttt exercising caution remains essential.

Varkala is a beach town, close to many other towns like Aleppy, Kochi, Trivandrum. Quiet, peaceful and tranquil, I’d recommend it for anyone travelling solo in India for the first time. I stayed in hostels and went at the beginning of the season. So surf, accommodation and pricing was still relatively on the lower end. Definitely look up Barefoot Hostels there for the coziest, friendliest stay that is super clean and pocket-friendly!
