I would say it's not like a major crime city yeah but like you should be cautious. Here there are many political issues so just make sure you're not going into dark alleys and stuff. Visit during day or peak times. Avoid any places after 12 in the morning.
Posted: May 7, 2025Kolkata is overall safe city. No that much unsafety for female travelers.well some small incidents happened and a big rape case and sometimes political problem . Anyway after 11 am it's better to take rides its safe. Local.trains are safe too.

Kolkata is fairly safe. But you have to be vigilant as well. Traveling alone after dark can be tricky and should be avoided. Overall its a safe city but you still have to be aware of your surroundings.
Posted: April 24, 2025Kolkata is fairly safe overall, other than extremely shady places of courses. Has there been crime and assault cases? yes. But they're unfortunately everywhere, so keeping that in mind, Kolkata isn't too bad. People are mostly friendly and happy to help with food, directions, travel. Also compared to other cities, Kolkata doesn't have that much of a night life and a lot of areas are gonna be fairly empty by 11pm, which might be scary. Local transport is very cheap here and safe enough.
Posted: April 14, 2025It is safe for groups. After the rgkar incident one cannot feel completely safe but the people of Kolkata try their best to help strangers, make everyone feel at home. And there are police and other help available. Only worries: political party feuds, unemployed people, eveteasers (rare) . Good people are more than the bad people here. Horrific crimes rarely happen, if ever. It's a beautiful city.

Kolkata is safe City and land of artists. It is a warm cusp between the modern and the ancient worlds. Women here can wear anything they want and feel safe, despite the recent Kolkata rape case I have been living in this city for 2+ years and I have always felt safe.

Okay I went on this trip last year to meet one of my friends it was nice but I'm concerned about safety and of course the male stares. Also the cleanliness is a concern as well. Nice trip though I'd def say
Posted: May 27, 2025I felt safe. I would recommend trying the fast food. I also went shopping. Loved the people. Just avoid the dark alleys. I would recommend meeting with people and asking them about their culture. Also please avoid during peak summers.
