Being born and raised in Kolkata...I'd say it's somewhat safer than most big cities in India. I find the locals really helpful. I personally think the metro is the best way to easily navigate around the city.
Posted: August 11, 2025This city is pretty much safer compared to other metro cities of India. The transport around the city is safer and cheap too. Even around night time it is considered safer for women, as the police patrolling happens quite frequently. The locals are also somewhat educated to converse in other languages, and most times are helpful to the tourists.
Posted: August 7, 2025Women are not safe alone at night. Be safe and travel with groups. In public transport Beawar of wired peoples. Don't expect personal space in public. You're mostly safe in the metro, avoid local trains or buses, if possible.
Posted: July 31, 2025I would say it's not like a major crime city yeah but like you should be cautious. Here there are many political issues so just make sure you're not going into dark alleys and stuff. Visit during day or peak times. Avoid any places after 12 in the morning.
Posted: May 7, 2025Kolkata is overall safe city. No that much unsafety for female travelers.well some small incidents happened and a big rape case and sometimes political problem . Anyway after 11 am it's better to take rides its safe. Local.trains are safe too.

Okay I went on this trip last year to meet one of my friends it was nice but I'm concerned about safety and of course the male stares. Also the cleanliness is a concern as well. Nice trip though I'd def say
