I have never personally felt unsafe in my part of town, but I am aware of other parts of town that locals consider to be unsafe. In general, I do not go out alone or take an Uber by myself after dark.

Kolkata was definitely the worst place I have been in my life. Accommodation is much more expensive if you want to find something fairly decent, and I had trouble finding good places to eat compared to the rest of India.
Posted: October 17, 2023I went to Kolkata for 3 days and had a great time. The traffic and noise were crazy. The city has many wonderful sights and flavors to experience. Besides regular tourist spots such as the Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, etc, I loved visiting the potter's colony called Kumartuli and the Jorasanko Thakurbari museum. The food in Kolkata was a real pleasure.
