A really safe country, lived here 10 years and never felt unsafe. Walk alone home at night with no issues, also traveling around the country is safe. Lots of cameras if needed. Taxi apps have safety features like send to a friend and audio recording so use the DiDi app

Beijing and China in general is a very safe place for women and for everyone. There are cameras everywhere on the streets and people don't really go out at night, when I go outside at night I know noone will get on my way. I always feel safe and can let my purse out of sight for a few minutes (if I go to the toilet for example) and I know everything will still be in place when I come back. I give 2 stars about the fact that you can get "physically attacked" because strangers can actually come to you and start touching your hair or your bracelet (one day I was wearing a bracelet with spikes and a man came and said "oh this is pretty" touched it) or your skin if you are brown or black. But I want to say that these people are not actually willing to hurt you, it's because China is not really a diverse country and they are just curious and might not have the same private space boundaries as I have (in France). You can always feel that people's intentions are not mean so you still feel secure, but if you don't like physical touch or strangers talking to you, I just want to let you know. I recommend this country for its safety.
Posted: July 1, 2025It's the safest city in China in my opinion. There are a lot of police on streets day to night and cameras almost everywhere in public. The infrastructure of the city is well-developed and a lot of security check at subway stations and the like.
Posted: March 18, 2025I have a hijab on and i felt fine walking alone at night when i needed to. Public transport was safe, walking on the streets too felt safe. But still though, avoid walking alone at night anywhere in the world just because it makes sense.
Posted: January 31, 2025you can walk lonely on the street at any time, no robbery, very few theft, havent heard of rape. there maybe beggers just ignore them, homeless people are usually sent back to their home town by police, so its rare too.

I was in Beijing with my friend and her husband during 144-hour transit, we were able to shop and visit Universal, Great Wall of China. I haven't tried Chinese cuisine before this trip, so I suffered a bit but the overall experience was okay. Food was quite cheap especially domestic ones. Housing was on the expensive side, of our budget. The Beijing metropolitan was really nice and comfy. As we were in transit we were not allowed to go outside Hebei district. But it was quite okay.
