It’s a modern big city. And people here are very nice and polite. You can go on the street at midnight.Because the security here is very good. Even you left your bag on the street, no one will steal it.
Posted: January 9, 2025There are CCTV s absolutely everywhere and deters almost all violent crime. You can leave your bags alone at table in a restaurant or bar and no one will take your things. If you lose your phone in a taxi, you can contact the driver and retrieve it. Walking alone at night is more than fine as well.
Posted: January 3, 2025Safest city I have been, I grew up in shanghai and I could take public transportation starting when I was around 12 years old to anywhere inside the city. All my friends and family think it’s the safest city they have been

It’s so safe that I feel totallybcomfortable walking home at 3 am being kind of drunk. Or walk to the bathroom with my laptop left on the table of a Starbucks. It’s totally normal if I just go to a bar alone and enjoy a night of music/drinks without worrying about being harassed. And if I see another woman being bothered, I wouldn’t hesitate to step up and help her.

In Shanghai, if you're eating alone, you can even leave your cell phone on the table to go to the bathroom. Feel free to leave your cell phone in your pants pocket or bag. There are no homeless people in downtown Shanghai. The subway and buses are clean, the staff is very helpful, and no one is selling or begging. You never have to worry about vehicle theft in Shanghai. All drivers obeyed the traffic rules well. There are almost no sexual harassment cases in Shanghai
Posted: June 8, 2024Totally safe walking on the streets in the late night. Especially at 2:00 am, when most people fall asleep and you will feel like you own the whole world. By the way people are very friendly. Hard to find a racist here : )

I've never lived in a safer place than in Shanghai. You can walk around at night with your AirPods in your ears and there's no problem in terms of female safety. I do know that some of the cheaper nightclubs sometimes sell fake alcohol, which can make you get alcohol poisoning, but as far as date rape and stuff like that goes, it's not common at all.

Shanghai was great, my friend and I felt very safe and enjoyed most places we ate. Our experience in Shanghai was that it was really expensive and has a big shopping scene. We opted to taking trains to other cities more focused on other activities such as the Great Wall in Beijing and the terra-cotta soldiers in Xi’an.
