How safe is Shanghai?

I feel very safe in Shanghai. I can tell that the locals feel the same. No one bothers anyone here. There are cameras almost everywhere and police presence at key spots. There are also security checks at metro stations. Even when I walk alone at night, I don’t feel afraid.

Life is very safe in Shanghai: tangible and strictly enforced laws are in place to protect women in any and all settings. Culturally, misogyny and sexism are still present, but would rarely escalate into physical violence. Help lines and healthcare services are readily available.

Part of China (a very controlled country), Shanghai is the safest city I have ever visited, especially as a woman. You will never feel in danger, unsafe or even uncomfortable. The risk of being assaulted, robbed etc is extremely low (even late at night) due to the control of the government (lots of cameras) but mostly due to Chinese people's behaviour (extremely safe!!!).

Shanghai is a very safe city. I’ve lived here for over 20 years. And I’m a jazz music fan, I would very often go jazz bar and go back home in midnight. I’m very sure that it’s very safe for a woman walking in midnight.

It’s a modern big city. And people here are very nice and polite. You can go on the street at midnight.Because the security here is very good. Even you left your bag on the street, no one will steal it.

There are CCTV s absolutely everywhere and deters almost all violent crime. You can leave your bags alone at table in a restaurant or bar and no one will take your things. If you lose your phone in a taxi, you can contact the driver and retrieve it. Walking alone at night is more than fine as well.

Its pretty safe traveling in Shanghai, or most big cities in China. In Shanghai, i went to see a football game, went to Disneyland, went to see an opera, and taste some traditional food, beer and coffee. They are all recommended. Shanghai is also known as coffee city in China, if you are interested in Coffee, you should definitely try some. I spent 1k CNY for the flights, 300 for 1 night hotel, the rest of nights I was couch surfing, 500 for Disney land, 300 for opera tickets, 200 for football ticket. 1k for eating and drinking. I get around mostly by shared bike. It’s really convenient, for most spots we can ride in several minutes.
