Local experience

Aachen is safe. Even at night. Maybe avoid the eastern part of the city at night. You can confidently use public transportation and taxis here. It's best to call 900600 for the cheapest fares. You can practically walk to the Netherlands from here. We have the Three-Country Point where you stand in Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium simultaneously. So, you can take many trips both domestically and internationally. If you want to do more, a road trip to the sea (Netherlands, Belgium, or even France) takes just about 3 hours. Paris in France is also reachable in just a 3-hour drive. Dining options are quite good. Asian cuisine at Day Do and Kanpai. In the eastern quarter, there are good Turkish restaurants. However, the best kebab is in the city center at Aga, which also offers vegetarian options. Fine dining at Quellenhof or La Becasse. The TooGoodToGo app always has good deals if you want to shop affordably.

Solo travel experience

I visited for an exhibition and to see the cathedral which is very ancient. Aachen is a beautiful town and very safe. I stayed centrally and it was an easy walk frim the station, and very easy to get everywhere on foot.
