Peru is generally safe for solo female travellers. The country is known for its friendly people and vibrant culture, and the majority of visitors have a positive experience. It is important to take the same precautions as you would in any other country, such as avoiding walking alone at night, being aware of your surroundings, and not carrying large amounts of cash. Additionally, it is recommended to dress modestly and to research the areas you plan to visit in advance. With the right preparation and precautions, Peru can be a safe and enjoyable destination for solo female travellers.

I went to the following places solo, and the vibe I got from each place: - Lima: stayed in Barranco which is a safe neighborhood, some parts of Lima ok during the day but definitely to be avoided evening and nighttime - Cusco / Machu Picchu: Cusco is jam-packed with tourists, didn’t feel unsafe, but was scammed and the bus driver from Cusco to MP tried to steal from my backpack - Puno / Lake Titicaca: Puno felt a bit dodgy, but I enjoyed staying on one of the floating islands on Lake Titicaca
Posted: September 17, 2023My first solo trip outside of Europe was last year starting in Peru and it was incredible. Felt very safe, easy to navigate, and met lovely people. I was there when the protests kicked off last Christmas and while there was a lot of inconvenience and disruption with closures etc., but none of the tourists I know experienced anything unsafe.
Posted: September 13, 2023I was in Peru solo for more than two weeks. I was a bit nervous about how safe I’d be, but honestly felt immediately safe arriving in Cusco. I’ve also been to Puno, Arequipa, Huacachina, Paracas, and Lima and didn’t feel unsafe at all (only as I would in any other place e.g. walking down a dark and narrow street alone with not many people around). I didn’t see any issues regarding the political unrest. Coming here was the best decision, I’ve loved it so much.
Posted: September 12, 2023Peru can be a safe destination for solo female travelers, but it's important to take some precautions to ensure your safety. Here are some safety tips for solo female travelers in Peru:
Before travelling to Peru, it is important to research the area you are visiting. This includes learning about the culture, customs, and safety of the area. Knowing what to expect can help you stay safe and avoid any potential risks.
When travelling alone, it is important to stay aware of your surroundings. Be aware of people around you and trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, it is best to leave the area.
It is best to avoid travelling alone at night, especially in unfamiliar areas. If you must travel at night, try to stay in well-lit areas and avoid walking alone.
When travelling in Peru, it is important to dress appropriately. Avoid wearing revealing clothing and try to blend in with the locals.
When travelling alone, it is important to stay in secure accommodation. Make sure to research the area and read reviews before booking a place to stay.
When travelling alone, it is best to avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Instead, use a credit or debit card to pay for items.
It is important to avoid accepting rides from strangers. If you need a ride, use a reputable taxi service or ride-sharing app.
When travelling alone, it is important to keep your belongings with you at all times. Don’t leave your bags or other items unattended.
Before travelling alone, it is important to let someone know where you are going. This way, if something happens, someone will know where to look for you.
Carrying a whistle can be a great way to alert people if you are in danger. It can also be used to scare away potential attackers.

I’m looking at going to Peru and Machu Picchu in April next year. I’m 62 and reasonably fit. From those who’ve been there - would you recommend the Inca Trail or the Quarry Track? I kind of like the path less travelled so maybe the Quarry Trail with less people would be the best option.
Posted: December 1, 2022I want to plan a trip for the coming 3 weeks to Peru (last moment). What are the safety concerns for a woman traveling alone as I’m willing to travel also by bus around etc.

Posted: November 19, 2022I'm planning two days alone in Lima, Peru before a cruise. Any suggestions for where to stay and what to do when I'm there? I'd like to stay close to the port to make it easy to get to the ship.
Posted: October 26, 2022For Peru accommodation, what booking sites have you used? I used Agoda in Asia, but didn't know if as good in Peru.
