Safety:Safe

Puno can be a safe destination for solo female travelers, but it's still advisable to exercise standard precautions. Like many other places, it may have instances of petty theft or minor crime. It's crucial to avoid secluded areas, especially at night, and always keep your belongings secured. During the day, main areas and tourist sites are generally safe. However, it's always suggested you stay vigilant about your surroundings.

Transport:Moderate

Puno is moderately easy to navigate with a combination of walking for close distances and using local taxis for longer routes. Knowing some basic Spanish can be helpful when dealing with taxis. It's also advisable to use maps or GPS to guide your routes. There can be occasional areas where it may feel a bit challenging due to hilly terrain or uneven pathways. With practice and confidence, however, it becomes easier to get around.

Things to do:Interesting

Puno is full of cultural and historical significance with numerous activities to engage in. You can explore the ancient Uros Floating Islands, archaeological sites such as Sillustani Tombs, and the awe-inspiring Lake Titicaca. The city boasts vast landscapes filled with natural beauty and charming local markets that offer a unique shopping experience. Despite its high altitude, with adequate acclimatization, there are numerous hiking and trekking opportunities to be explored. Thus, it can be considered as an enriching and exciting destination for adventure seekers and history buffs.

Food:Above average

Puno offers a good variety of food that would cater to diverse taste pallets. Indigenous dishes are commonly served, providing a delightful exploration of authentic Peruvian cuisine. From staple items like quinoa, corn, and a variety of potatoes, to traditional specialties that can be found in local marketplaces, you can expect to enjoy a unique culinary journey. However, it is worthwhile to mention that Puno may not have the wide selection of international cuisines that other larger tourist cities possess.

Budget:Moderate

Puno offers a moderate cost for travelers. The city has great budget-friendly food and accommodation options for basic and medium comfort levels. However, attractions like Lake Titicaca boat tours, Uros Islands, and archeological sites may up the travel cost a bit, making Puno a mid-range budget travel destination.

Group travel experience

Puno was the only part of our six-week trip through Peru that I didn't enjoy. I suffered terribly from altitude sickness there and considered the boat trip to be very disappointing and yes, also very touristy.
