Safety:Safe

Huacachina is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. Normal precautions you would take while traveling in any foreign location still apply. Violent crime is relatively uncommon, but petty theft is more frequent. It's best to stay in well-lit areas at night and avoid displaying expensive possessions in public. Always heed local advice on areas to avoid.

Transport:Easy

Huacachina is a relatively small oasis town, thus making it easy to navigate on foot. Tour providers can be found throughout the town for ventures further afield, such as the popular dune buggy and sandboarding tours. However, it lacks public transportation and is distant from the nearest city, necessitating taxis or arranged transportation for longer trips.

Things to do:Interesting

Huacachina offers a blend of natural beauty and thrilling adventure while not having the overwhelming crowd typical of tourist hot spots. The desert oasis provides breathtaking views and unique activities such as sandboarding and dune buggy rides, which make for an unforgettable trip. The area also showcases the mystic of a natural desert oasis. Although a bit limited in terms of variety, overall, the opportunities presented will keep most solo female travelers entertained.

Food:Above average

The food in Huacachina offers an interesting blend of local and foreign dishes. Many eateries offer traditional Peruvian cuisine, which is diverse and rich with ingredients such as potatoes, corn, grains, and meats often seasoned with unique Peruvian spices. Seafood dishes, like ceviche, are incredibly fresh and flavorful. There are also a number of restaurants serving international cuisine if you ever crave something closer to home. However, vegetarian or vegan options can be slightly limited. With this variety and quality, you have the opportunity to experience both the local culture through food and the comfort of familiar tastes.

Budget:Moderate

Huacachina offers a moderately budget-friendly travel experience. Accommodation, food, and basic expenses are reasonably priced. However, some activities like dune buggy rides and sandboarding can elevate costs. Therefore, your overall spend mainly depends on the type of activities you choose to include in your itinerary.

Is Huacachina worth visiting?

Group travel experience

People were very hostile and unfriendly towards travelers. I would recommend traveling in a group, as it is very dangerous, and besides, you should stick to the group. Book a hotel that is closer to the city center, as it is more lively there and people are friendlier. Make sure you have mosquito creams with you, as there are too many of them.

Group travel experience

I loved Huacachina. A beautiful desert oasis in the middle of the mountains, where we did amazing buggy tours on the beach and sand surfed, and the sunsets were absolutely unbelievable.
