I love visiting Groningen - I absolutely recommend renting a bike to get the actual local authentic experience. The city museum is just fantastic, food options are diverse and exciting, lots of nice bars and cofee places, especially in the city centre and close to Rijksuniversity. The park is also a must see, and coffeeshops are safe also for a solo travellers that wants to try!
Posted: July 23, 2024Experienced: July, 2024Groningen is an absolutely beautiful university city that is definitely worth visiting during a train trip to the north. Its stunning architecture and lively nightlife every day of the week, full of young people, are captivating. I felt very safe there.

So far so good! Still got a few days to spare, but I've seen some of the city and explored a bit on Mt own without any problems.

Loved living here! It felt very safe. I have walked at 11pm from the station to my house, carrying large luggage, all on my own and the idea of a robbery never even crossed my mind. Very young and lively city.
Posted: February 22, 2025Sometimes there are some drunk people on the streets but they are not dangerous. There are some groups of boys in some parts of the city but they do not bother anyone except maybe if they know you and have a personal problem with you.

Hi!! I’m Lisabeth, 21 year old history student in Groningen, but moving to Graz in September. I live in a studio, so not able to host unfortunately, but would love to show you around Groningen as I’ve lived in the area my whole life. I’m a waitress at a lovely restaurant and bartender/service at the local music theater. I love both my jobs! Next to this I am trying to become a photographer, so I sometimes shoot at concerts in Groningen for a local music news website. I also love cooking and.. eating :) Hit me up if you need a guide!

My name is Marije. I've been travelling a lot; for the adventure and sometimes for research during my study in Human Geography. My master research was mainly focused on the Arctic region. I love fine arts, painting and working with my hands. I'm also really into martial arts. I practised Judo for ten years when I was younger. Now I mostly do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It's wonderful to meet new people; sharing interesting perspectives and stories. I love to cook for others and to throw theme parties. I like it when I can meet up with locals when I'm somewhere and I also enjoy to act as a local myself when people visit my hometown!
