Safety:Very safe

Kaunas is generally a safe city for solo female travelers. Violent crimes are rare, and it's relatively safe to travel around even at night. It has a well-lit, reliable public transportation system and people are friendly and willing to help. However, like any city, it's essential to always be alert, especially in crowded places and late at night to prevent petty theft issues. Also, learning a few Lithuanian phrases can help ease communication.

Transport:Easy

Kaunas offers quite a convenient experience for a solo female traveler. The city isn't too big and it's well interconnected. Local public transport includes buses and trolleys and is relatively reliable and efficient. You can also find taxis or use rideshare apps. Be aware that very few people speak English, and the signs are mostly in Lithuanian which could cause minor tangled moments. However, locals are friendly and will try to help you navigate when asked.

Things to do:Interesting

Kaunas in Lithuania is quite engaging as its cultural richness offers numerous activities to solo female travelers. From delightful street art to historic and architectural treasures, the city's charm never seems to end. Explore the unique Art Nouveau architecture, visit fascinating museums like the Devils Museum or the Aviation Museum, or discover Kaunas Castle and Pazaislis Monastery. The tranquil green spaces such as Kaunas Botanical garden and the vibrant Town Hall Square and Vilnius Street for local cuisine testing are also popular. It's a safe and welcoming city with friendly locals. Despite lacking beach or extreme sports activities, it still offers an eclectic mix of activities to dive into the Lithuanian culture.

Food:Above average

Kaunas offers a wonderful mix of traditional Lithuanian cuisine and international favorites. Even though it's not as diversified as bigger cities, you will still be able to explore a delightful array of hearty meat dishes, fresh local fish, and soups which are specialties in this city. There are also a good number of vegetarian and vegan options. The city also prides itself on its wide variety of baked goods and sweets. Traditional Lithuanian beverages are a must-try as well.

Budget:Affordable

Kaunas is quite budget-friendly especially if you compare it to Western Europe. Accommodation, food, and public transport are relatively cheap. A meal at an inexpensive restaurant can cost around €5-€10, while a monthly public transport ticket typically costs under €30. Hostel prices range from €12-€20 per night. There may however be extra costs like museums or attractions that might increase your budget depending on your interests and activities during your stay.

Lithuania

- Kaunas is pretty safe for women - I really recommend places to eat: *Grill london (kind of cheap and good for lunch/dinner, I really like their raspderry tea) *Holy donut (great place for donuts) *Habits (one is with really nice buns and another is very aesthetic place to have a cup of coffee/tea) *Talutti (if you eat, their homemade lemonade is great) I really recommend exploring it by foot (especially center from train station to santaka) Public transport for students cost 0.5€ if you buy it on a bus, 1€ if you don’t have ISIC student card On app “Žiogas” it cost 0.35€ a ticket/student
