Kaunas is a pretty safe city. In daylight-there’s absolutely nothing to worry about, sometimes there are some less public places, where you can feel scared as a woman, but other than that-people are trusting. At night on the other hand, be careful of drunk people around the bars-some drunk men tend to talk to you harrass, therefore stay carefull with that.

It's safe to walk during the day, but it's better to be careful at night. You can safely drive on public transport, but it's better not to be alone in the evenings. Go where the streets are lit. Always have your phone close to you.
Posted: February 16, 2025It usually depends on the parts of Kaunas you visit. For example, the central areas are more welcoming to new travelers, nobody really pays attention to you and do their own things. I’ve lived in Kaunas my whole life and so far I have never been harrassed in clubs or pubs, hit on in concerts or even approached on public transport. Although for later evenings I would suggest staying closer to well lit areas and using Bolt or Uber for your rides home just in case you feel unsafe in the area.
Posted: February 15, 2025Overall safe city, wouldn’t go somewhere alone at night tho.. but if you’re in city centre then you’re okay cause I would say that it’s not that safe in sleeping areas at night. During the day its safe🫶
Posted: January 28, 2025Kaunas had a lot of history with organized crime in the 90s when Lithuania just declared independence, but since joining the EU and NATO our country, in my opinion flourished, when I was growing up the city did not have a good vibe, but since reconstructing our city, getting more funds into education, culture and etc. Kaunas became much more safe, living here all my life, and not being the type of person to stay indoors, I'd say as a woman I have never been threatened, followed, harassed physically or sexually here. I am a night owl and also a traveller between the cities in Lithuania, at night I have never felt unsafe or had any incidents that requeried any intervienence.
