Kaunas had a lot of history with organized crime in the 90s when Lithuania just declared independence, but since joining the EU and NATO our country, in my opinion flourished, when I was growing up the city did not have a good vibe, but since reconstructing our city, getting more funds into education, culture and etc. Kaunas became much more safe, living here all my life, and not being the type of person to stay indoors, I'd say as a woman I have never been threatened, followed, harassed physically or sexually here. I am a night owl and also a traveller between the cities in Lithuania, at night I have never felt unsafe or had any incidents that requeried any intervienence.
Posted: January 10, 2025Overall, Kaunas is a very safe city. While there are some areas to avoid during a dark period, Kaunas center and most areas are really safe. The crime rate is also really safe compared to cities across the world.

I walk a lot, so even walking home alone in my remote home area after few drinks feels safe enaugh for me. It is never 100% safe to walk alone at night, but i am sure there is no sittuation without a solutionš
Posted: January 4, 2025Kaunas in my opinion in safe place to travel every time of day (night or day), so I think that its kind of safe place to stay. People are polite and nature is just amazing, donāt forget about Kaunas history that is just incredible

Kaunas is a very safe city, thankfully. I walked at night from friend's places, the centre and any place you could possibly imagine and i never faced any suspicious situations. Usually people sleep by 8 here and lithuanians by nature are kinda antisocial, so trust me when i say they'd try to avoid seeing people as much as possible so 9/10 no one would bother you unless you're around a club and you find some drunks, then i'd say be cautious but other than that it's a very safe country for women solo travelling or in groups

I would say it's pretty safe and you can feel safe unless it's a darker time of the day, it's possible to get the cat called if you're walking and it's later but it's not very common. when it's a darker time of the day it's better to be with someone else either another girl or a guy friend just so you could feel more comfortable

Kaunas is a second biggest city in Lithuania. I would say itās very safe compared to similar cities in other countries. A woman can easily and without fear walk when itās dark, use public transportation or even not to lock your house door without fear of getting mugged or attacked.
Posted: December 28, 2024I feel safe 99% of the time even if I am walking alone at night, but of course it's normal to take caution just like anywhere else - especially if you're outside when it's dark, or leave your car unlocked and etc.
Posted: December 23, 2024Having lived here for 4 years I feel really safe in Kaunas, I haven't felt unsafe or uncomfortable to walk outside when it's dark, whether it's the city center or any other part of the city. Most people are welcoming and willing to help foreigners, as a lot of exchange students come here to study.

City centre is very safe. But be careful with older guys or young āstreet jerksā. Probably they just impolite:) Always use official platforms like Bolt for taxi. Public transport is very safe, you can sit in front, near driver. If something happens, call police they care;)
