Toulouse, located in the southwestern part of France, is known as "La Ville Rose" or "The Pink City" due to its unique terracotta brickwork and is the fourth largest city in the country. Safety:Safe

Toulouse is generally safe with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Like any other urban area, it has its share of petty crime such as pickpocketing, especially in crowded areas or public transportation. Use common sense precautions; don't flash expensive belongings, be cautious in quieter parts of the city at night, and trust your instincts. Emergency services are reliable, and locals are generally helpful if you encounter any difficulties.

Transport:Easy

Toulouse offers various options for navigating the city, making it relatively easy for solo female travelers. The city has an efficient public transportation system including metro, trams, and buses that cover most areas. Additionally, the city is bicycle-friendly with numerous bike lanes. However, some parts of the city might not be easily accessible via public transport and may require some amount of walking.

Things to do:Interesting

Toulouse is oozing with culture and history that could keep you busy for days. It's known as 'La Ville Rose' due to its signature pink terracotta bricks and has a wide array of architectural wonders such as the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Basilique Saint-Sernin. The city also boasts a vibrant art scene with an assortment of museums like Les Abattoirs featuring modern to contemporary art. This place is also a haven for foodies who wish to indulge in authentic French cuisine. The downside could be language barriers for non-French speakers and the level of safety during the night in some areas.

Food:Excellent

Toulouse offers an outstanding diversity of culinary delights, making it a veritable paradise for food lovers. Known for its high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, the city provides a range of delicacies in both traditional and international cuisines. Duck confit, Toulouse sausages, and cassoulet are local specialties not to be missed. Numerous markets also offer fresh seasonal produce alongside variety of cheeses and baked goods, reflecting the city's firm root in southwestern French cuisine. Moreover, Toulouse is proud to provide plenty of options catering to different dietary requirements and preferences including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices.

Budget:Moderate

Toulouse is considered moderately budget-friendly. While it's not the cheapest city to explore, daily expenses aren't overly steep either. Accommodations fit a range of budgets, and food cost can be kept at a minimum by buying from local markets and bakeries. The city owns a myriad of free attractions, such as nature sights and historic landmarks, as well. However, if you intend to partake in multiple tourist activities, dine at high-end restaurants, or shop to your heart’s content, costs could add up quickly.

Is Toulouse worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

It is a beautiful city with plenty to see and do. Felt safe during the day and at night. Walks along the canal du midi and the narrow streets in the town. The metro is easy to get around in. Stayed in hotel in Jean Juras .

I visited Toulouse this summer and absolutely loved it. Amazing food, beautiful location and cheap day trips to other cities, including Bordeaux or Carcassonne.
