Safety:Very safe

Nice is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. Like most popular tourist destinations, it has its share of petty crime such as pickpocketing, especially in crowded areas, but violent crime is rare. As a solo traveler, maintaining a high degree of awareness and using common sense – particularly at night and when visiting quieter areas – will be your best tools for remaining safe. Staying in well-lit, populated areas and securing personal belongings are recommended. Overall, Nice places a high value on safety and security, especially within its many traveler sites and hospitality venues.

Transport:Very easy

Navigating through Nice as a solo traveller is relatively straightforward. Key areas and attractions are conveniently accessible; the city offers a wide range of transportation options, including buses, trams, and bikes, which are exceptionally easy to use. Furthermore, most areas can be easily walked. Safety precautions should always be taken, especially at night, but overall it's a pedestrian-friendly location with English-friendly signs.

Things to do:Interesting

Nice is brimming with cultural vibrancy, from its many art galleries including the renowned Musée Matisse and the Marc Chagall Museum, to its charming old town (Vieux Nice) with a maze of narrow streets filled with lively bars, eateries, and boutiques. The stunning promenades and beaches offer exceptional relaxation, and outdoor year-round activities like cycling, sailing, or just exploring the unique landscape and architecture of the city. Plus, Nice is an excellent gateway for exploring the wider French Riviera. However, it may lack certain extremes or unique experiences that might resonate with select adventurous travelers.

Food:Excellent

The food in Nice presents a delicious adventure for any culinary enthusiast. Offering a fantastic blend of traditional Mediterranean flavors and French sophistication, the cuisine delivers a wide range of seafood, fresh fruits, vegetables, and local specialties like Socca and Ratatouille. Nice's food scene provides a delightful tour of the senses with an emphasis on fresh, local, and seasonal produce. You'll never run out of new, vibrant flavors to try. Whether you're a foodie, a lover of fine wines, or someone who appreciates simple, hearty meals, Nice has you covered on all fronts.

Budget:Moderate

Nice offers a mixed bag when it comes to budget travel. Though some things can be pricey such as dining in high-end restaurants and accommodation during peak season, there are also plenty of ways to save money. The city has many free attractions like the Castle Hill and Promenade des Anglais, and there are budget-friendly food options available in local markets. Public transportation is quite affordable as well.

Solo travel experience

I visited Nice, France in September 2016. I stayed there on a short stopover the previous year and like it so much decided to properly visit again. I stayed in a hostel and felt very safe there. There is a beautiful beach there though it is pebbly there a some sandy beaches nearby in Monaco just a short train ride away. The water was lovely at the end of summercas it had warmed up a lot. There are loads of little cafes and shops to visit. Cool restaurants and night life too. I'd recommend the farmers market on the weekend to check out the great array of foods. The local dish Socca is delicious and gluten free for any fellow coeliac nomads.

Group travel experience

Nice is very social and such a fun and vibrant city! I stayed at a hostel that hosted a bar crawl where I met loads of fun and nice people. It was well arranged and the hosts were also very nice. In terms of safety, I must say that I did not feel SUPER safe, but that is mostly due to my own fear. Two very sweet guys from the pub crawl followed me home to my hostel and made sure that I got in safely. They then left and walked home to themselves. That made me feel very safe! Also there are police everywhere which also makes you feel looked out for. In terms of budget, the city is very expensive, so it is not very budget friendly. But I still think it is worth a visit.

Solo travel experience

Every year I travel to Nice because, in my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful places. Near the center, there is a waterfall and next to it, a view of the entire French Riviera. France, as you know, requires financial preparation, but the food is DELICIOUS! During the day, there is a market where you can buy a lot of fruits, pastries; I recommend, for example, buying used jewelry; you can find pearls. And in the evening, in the same place, delightful restaurants set up their gardens.

Solo travel experience

My first solo trip was to Nice. I took day trips by train to visit Cannes and Monaco. I did not go out alone at night. I stayed in a dormitory for girls only and immediately became friends with others and went out to bars, which seemed safe in a group. Lots of fun, easy transport, many places to see and amazing summer weather.

Solo travel experience

I went to Nice for my first solo trip in my life. I stayed at the Ozz hostel and felt very safe and comfortable in the city. Public transportation is great, and the city itself is also very pedestrian-friendly. I absolutely loved it. The only time I felt a bit unsafe was when I was walking through empty streets at night.

Couple travel experience

Nice was beautiful but also quite touristy. It was sunny and warm. I noticed some street harassment of femme women and there were not many obviously LGBTQIA inclusive spaces. That said, the people were friendly towards me and my partner (a woman).

Solo travel experience

Make sure you visit the market! Lots of amazing street vendors. Go up (or catch the mini tourist train) to see the view of the entire city. The best gelato is Azzurro! At Sainte-Reparate - you must visit the Sainte-Reparate Cathedral (right next door). Avoid eating at 'Jean Médecin', as it's all average tourist traps. But around the market in the old city, there are amazing restaurants. I would recommend booking a mini food tour or bar crawl. It's a really great way to meet people. St-Paul-De-Vence (if you have a car, it's about 30 minutes from Nice! Amazing. Eze - I recommend taking the bus to the top. The view is beautiful!
