during my trip to the "colours of ostrava" festival, me (f) and my partner (f) have experienced multiple rude and scary encounters with local czech people. as a woman, you are specifically subjected to random acts of verbal aggression. while this goes for all places in the world, i felt that the czech republic was especially bad. we were generally safe while using public transport at night. due to the festival, the time tables for public transport changed and we got lost on a tram one night -...

Ostrava is a safe city - only some areas have a worse reputation. In the evening, most people move around the city center, Poruba, and Ostrava-Jih without major concerns. At train stations, public transport stops, and in some more problematic neighborhoods, it is sensible to exercise the same level of caution as you would in any larger city.

Extremely safe. I don't even feel a bit scared when going out to train or bus stations after midnight. I haven't been to areas that people think are "less safe." But I didn't hear any criminal events from there, either.

I love it and feel safe mostly. Also student friendly. Actually it's not that tourist place but ofcourse there are nice places to see. 1-2 day is enough to see everywhere. Its a small city you will be fine!!

It’s mostly safe. But just like any place, it’s good to be aware of your surroundings. You do meet the occasional homeless and/or drunk person who might approach you, but I just ignore them and keep on walking.
