Is Makarska good for solo travel?

Safety:Very safe

Makarska is generally a safe place for solo female travelers. Crime rates are relatively low and locals are usually kind and helpful towards travelers. Public transportation and infrastructure are good. However, like any tourist place, it also experiences occasional petty crimes like pickpocketing, especially in crowded areas. So, it is always recommended to be cautious and aware of your surroundings.

Getting around Makarska is fairly straightforward. Most of the main attractions, beaches, and popular spots are within walking distance due to the compact nature of the city layout. For farther locations, there are public buses and taxi services available. However, signs and directions are not always in English, which could potentially pose some challenges.
Things to do:

Things to do:Interesting

Makarska offers a vast array of activities that make it interesting for solo female travelers. Besides the beautiful pebble-covered beaches and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing, the town is replete with cafes, shops and delightful restaurants serving local cuisines, offering a vibrant nightlife as well. For outdoor enthusiasts, the Biokovo Nature Park nearby provides opportunities for hiking and biking, with stunning views of the Adriatic Sea. Historical sites like St. Mark's Cathedral and the Malacological Museum offer cultural discoveries. However, despite these activities, the town isn't bustling like some other Croatian destinations and may not appeal to all.

Food:Above average

Makarska's food scene is quite satisfying. Serving a blend of Croatian, Mediterranean, and Continental cuisines, you will witness an unexpectedly broad array of dishes. Using fresh and local ingredients like seafood, olive oil, and a variety of herbs deeply infuses the dishes with traditional flavours. Don't miss out on trying the grilled fish or pastas. Some spots may not have many vegan or vegetarian options, but there's still a good selection.

Makarska offers a moderate budget-friendly experience. Accommodation options range from affordable guest houses to more pricey beachfront hotels. Eating out can be relatively inexpensive, especially if you opt for local eateries. Public transportation and tours can potentially add to your expenditure. It's not the cheapest destination in Europe, but can be comfortably enjoyed with some planning ahead.

Is Makarska worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

It’s a nice harbour city to visit. Clear ocean and king’s landing is about 2-3h to reach by car :) The town is not a Metropole for night life, but there is a couple of bars to hang out. From Juni the sunny days are guaranteed. If you enjoy hiking, there is a trail that leads to the next city along the coast, providing the best sea view guaranteed.
