Safety:Safe

Beijing is considered relatively safe for solo female travelers. It offers a rich cultural experience with a low crime rate. However, as with any global city, precautions should be taken especially at night in crowded places. It's always important to stay aware of your surroundings, and be wary of common tourist scams. In general, locals are helpful and respectful towards foreigners, and there's a considerable police presence in most parts of the city. However, it's crucial to keep the embassy or consulate phone number handy just in case.

Transport:Easy

Beijing is quite accessible with its vast and efficient public transportation system including subways and buses covering every corner of the city. Language could be a slight problem as English is not widely spoken. It is recommended to have a translation app and the city maps downloaded on your phone for ease of travel. Although it is a busy city, Beijing is generally safe and people are helpful. However, it can get crowded especially during peak hours, which can make commuting a bit challenging.

Things to do:Fascinating

Beijing, brimming with a rich historical and cultural heritage, provides travelers a myriad of activities and sightseeing possibilities. From exploring the legendary Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Temple of Heaven, to strolling around the traditional Hutong lanes, each experience is a step back in time, unfolding the city's enigmatic past. On the other hand, areas like the 798 Art Zone and Sanlitun offer modern art spaces and shopping alternatives. The city also takes pride in its Peking Opera and acrobatic shows, known all over the world for their distinctive style. Additionally, the delectable choice of traditional Chinese cuisine adds to the uniqueness of the journey. Despite the language barrier, English signage and translation apps make navigation fairly simple.

Food:Excellent

In Beijing, you will experience an excellent variety of food that encompasses not just the local Beijing cuisine, but culinary delights from all over China. The city offers a plethora of flavors, capturing the essence of each region’s unique taste. From the savory Peking Duck, the city's hallmark, to hot pots, dumplings, and noodle dishes, there’s an abundance of mouth-watering dishes you can try. Street food culture is also prominent for those looking forward to an open-air culinary adventure. The city caters to all types of dietary preferences and restrictions, making it a paradise for food-loving travelers. Do note down the names or pictures of your preferred dishes as English might not be commonly understood in local places.

Budget:Moderate

Beijing can be considered medium in terms of budget-friendliness. While some attractions have entry fees and Western-style meals can be expensive, local Chinese food, public transportation, and accommodation can be quite affordable. One can also find various free activities such as exploring street markets and parks. However, expenses might increase if you opt for guided tours or high-end services.

Solo travel experience

A 24-hour stop in Beijing, but enough to get to know the city. I was unlucky to be in a heavy smog, but nevertheless the walk was beautiful. A big plus is low prices, the staff at the hotel / restaurant / store speak English and a convenient and understandable metro, minus very long distances, from point A to point B, you need to walk from 30 minutes to an hour (although it seems close on the map), strong smog, without a normal VPN, you can not get to the Internet. An interesting experience, I would be glad to return to China again)

Solo travel experience

I went alone to Beijing in July. The subway there is fantastic and easy to understand. I didn't have any problems, I wasn't worried about safety. I loved watching the giant pandas at the local zoo, the Summer Palace was great. I practically visited everything, except the Great Wall of China, by subway. The Great Wall is the only thing for which I booked a tour. The most important tip is to get a VPN before leaving, which will allow you to use things like Google and Facebook when you're there.
