Is Beijing safe to travel?

Solo travel

I went alone to Beijing in July. The subway there is fantastic and easy to understand. I didn't have any problems, I wasn't worried about safety. I loved watching the giant pandas at the local zoo, the Summer Palace was great. I practically visited everything, except the Great Wall of China, by subway. The Great Wall is the only thing for which I booked a tour. The most important tip is to get a VPN before leaving, which will allow you to use things like Google and Facebook when you're there.

I worked in Beijing for a year and I loved living here. I donā€™t like the job but the city is amazing. Food is affordable, Didi (their taxi version) is affordable and fast, payment is convenient. So many things are extremely convenient but you need to know the system. Itā€™s not friendly to tourists unless you have an insider due to the blocking of majority of western owned apps hence VPN is a must or you could use roaming. Although you still need a local number to get a lot of things here like buying tickets.

Solo travel

My trip to Beijing was amazing. Highlights included hiking the Great Wall, exploring the historic Forbidden City, and enjoying the serene Summer Palace. The food was delicious, from Peking duck to street snacks. The blend of ancient and modern made it unforgettable.
